What are your 5/6 year old boys getting for Christmas?

I’m really on the last push and struggling for inspiration this year after a stressful
few months. It isn’t helped that a) he likes EVERYTHING and you could easily spend all your money on everything in the toy shop, and b) his birthday is very soon after Christmas so have to spread my ideas out over two occasions in as many weeks!

He is getting some Lego and a particular toy he’s been asking for for a while, plus book, sticker book and chocolate, but I’m looking for ideas for anything “fun” or toys I might not be familiar with (ideally to broaden the range beyond superheroes). Probably not board games as we already have quite a lot.

Would also be interested to know what books you’re buying for boys the same age. I feel we may be about to move towards short chapter books with pictures but DC1 never made this transition well and I’m not sure what kids this age might like (again, beyond superheroes - nothing against superheroes but the house is full
of them 🙄).

How about a potion making kit and a set of Worst Witch chapter books? Mine of the same age absolutely loves being read them and they inspire lots of potion making.

I like that idea! Thanks - had forgotten about the Worst Witch.

For books, my (1 month off) 5 year old, loves books like Billy's Mini Monsters, which are in between picture + Chapter books.. could be a good transition. You could also try comic books/graphic novels - which have been a good way to get my son to look through books on his own more.

In terms of presents, its been easy for us because he is 100% into a lego phase, so that, and Lego associated things ticked off a lot of his gifts.

For me, the "surprise" presents outside of the things he has asked for are a musical synth/drum pad, that he can tap away on, and a big container of 40 felt "snowballs" which I'm hoping will get chucked around the house in a big snowball flight on Christmas morning.

The adventure mice book series are great for this age - short chapters with some illustrations too.

Hot wheels! You can’t go wrong and there are loads of sets to choose from.
He also has a telescope, puzzles and my favourite a bopit!

Mine got a Yoto box for his 5th birthday. It’s been used every day since. Even comes on holiday with us.
He likes the Road Dahl, David Walliams, Mr Gum and music cards for it the best.

My little boy is 6 and loves number blocks. We have got him some of those sets and also the new leap frog globe that comes with a pen and a small screen which shows you lots of places around the world.

DS is 5.5. He’s getting Lego - a Minecraft set and a big mixed box with a book of build ideas. A Playdoh set, a Mario Monopoly game, Mario Wonder game for his Switch. Chocolate coins and Elf Surprise Haribo. He’s very into drawing at the moment so got him a big A3 pad and a set of nice colouring pens.

Book wise he’s got 3 - a Christmas compilation one called Round the Christmas Tree, which I had as a child and loved. Also The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark, and a book of My Naughty Little Sister stories.
