Looking for suggestions. We don’t want to make a whole other roast dinner but we want to have something nice… Any suggestions?

Our tradition is home made pizza .
I put a double quantity batch of dough in the breadmaker to mix and prove in the morning . DS grates loads of cheddar , mixes in grated mozzarella and we set out the sauces and olives, artichokes , sun dried tomatoes , mushrooms and peppers .
DS and I shape the dough then everyone makes their pizza.

Potato wedges and sour cream dip on the side

There would be a riot if I suggested otherwise !

That sounds lovely. I adore hearing about other families’ traditions ❤️

We have Boxing Day buffet
neighbours are coming round with two littles - did toy with the idea of Christmas Day but we all decided Boxing Day buffet was a better choice

I much prefer Boxing Day

there is
left over meats
pickled onions, pickled red cabbage, beetroots, anything pickled really
cheese board
breads, breadsticks
tangerines
nuts
crunchy salad bits
hard boiled eggs - actually I might do devil eggs
crisps

christmas pudding
chocolates
Trifle

Surely left over Christmas dinner is the only sane answer?

mumsiemoo2 · 16/12/2025 20:37

Leftover turkey, roast gammon, jacket potatoes, cheese, crackers and salad bits

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/12/2025 20:41

Bubble and Squeak with the left over dinner veg served woth gammon and cold turkey

Yes. Bubble and squeak here too but with cold beef, ham and turkey. Lots of pickles and chutneys.
Absolutely love this meal ( more than normal roast). Finish up the cheeses.
Yule log.

Home made Boxing Day pie. I’m cooking at the in laws house so will do roast potatoes and veg as well.

visionpools · 16/12/2025 21:18

Turkey sandwiches like my nan used to make them. DSF will make some pickled onions and different bits to go with them, but we’ll be so full after Christmas that turkey sandwiches and cheese and crackers will be more than enough!.

Cheese, mostly! Maybe an odd cracker and pickled onion.

This for me too. Cheese mostly with chocolate and Prosecco.

Bubble and squeak for a Boxind Day brunch here- with a fried egg on top! Then we won’t eat until much later and cheese will suffice.

One of my favourite meals of the year is boxing day when we usually cook oven chips to go with Christmas dinner leftovers - turkey, gammon, stuffing, sauces, whatever veg and then the chips to bulk it up as we rarely have many roasties left. We do some bistro gravy, and maybe cook some peas or carrots if not much veg left, but basically anything goes. Something about it feels so indulgent and lazy yet delicious, I always look forward to it!

Then the other meal will be all the cheese, buffet bits etc I bought for Christmas day tea but we didn't eat much of as too full from lunch. I think boxing day is my favourite eating day!

On a subsequent day, we usually have a turkey curry with bhajis, naan etc which I also enjoy a lot!

LastnightIdreamtIwenttoManderleyagain · 17/12/2025 07:25

Leftover turkey, ham, salads, bread, cheese. Boxing Day has always been my favourite - a bit of chopping and slicing, no cooking involved, don’t have to worry about timings. Delicious and relaxing. Might do a pudding, or might not. Chocolate is a good pud!

zebrastripesarefun · 17/12/2025 07:45

Always all the Christmas dinner leftovers here. Would be a riot otherwise!

FutureMandosWife · 17/12/2025 09:09

We are having Christmas day dinner on boxing day at my parents.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 17/12/2025 09:16

We are away this year, but normally Boxing Day is left overs, croissants, smoked salmon, pate etc for brunch, and then some nice bread and turkey sandwiches, pigs in blankets etc for dinner, then after things like, cheese, pudding , and with leftover nibbles throughout the day ie canapés, crisps nuts etc.

on the 27th we usually make a turkey curry in the slow cooker.
