I cannot imagine trying to so bluntly and needlessly upset and diminish someone who is doing their best for their child.

How nasty of you. From that response I presume you are a very lonely person, with no-one to share Christmas with.

@Bella2021 They sound like lovely presents, and I'm sure your DD is going to love them. Thank you for being an amazing mummy, who wants her DC to be as happy and excited as possible. Your obvious love for your lucky children, will be the best present they could ever want - even though they might not realise that yet! 💝

Yes I wondered that. Surely two nice presents and a book on a budget is much better

Two of you on the same page? I think that you and OohRains should private message each other, and see if you can meet up on Christmas Day to keep each other miserable company...

Any four or five year old would be ecstactically happy to see that pile of presents on Christmas Day!

My thoughts exactly!

Some of the replies here Confused
It’s a lovely variety of gifts. Toys, books, toiletries, art stuff, games…. Very well rounded. I dispute its tat. This sounds like a lovely selection of gifts for a child who I’m assuming doesn’t get much outside of birthday and Xmas. Might be a bit much if they’re getting something new frequently.
But otherwise it’s very well balanced and you got some great deals.

TheChosenTwo · 15/12/2025 11:46

It’s a lot! But as you say, they don’t receive presents from other family - it’s a nice amount of presents and a good variety of stuff. I think you’ve done really well on your budget and you’ll have a very happy child on christmas day!!
mind you I steered clear of sand/play doh type toys because my heart sank when they wanted to get them out to play 😜 other people bought them for our kids!! You’re braver than me 😂

GrassMarketeer · 16/12/2025 02:58

Well, obviously you do what makes you happy! But having been through umpteen Christmases with 3 (now adult) children, I would from the outset, do a stocking and a main present and about 4-6 smaller ones..books, PJ's, small world, craft, games etc.

Otherwise a huge sea of gifts quickly becomes the norm and gets overwhelming after a few years. Both in terms of cost as their preferences become more expensive and storage/clutter.

There's the environmental cost too as a huge pile of pound shop style toys tends to come with a lot of plastic packaging.

But it's personal choice, so Merry Christmas!
