Help!!
I'm really struggling for what to get them this year.
Over the years have done the usual, scarves, candles, bags for mother in law and puzzles, beer, whisky, books for father in law.
Gift vouchers, panto visits, subscriptions, you name it we've done it!
Hoping someone can give me a new idea please 🙏

You need to tell what they like, any hobbies etc.

SnobblyBobbly · 14/12/2025 13:30

Following- same problem here.

MIL is sorted (v boring, but she wanted new pots and pans as after reading something unfavourable about old non-stick pans 🤷🏻‍♀️) but FIL has mobility problems now so the usual golf related things are off the table.

OP We got ours an Air Fryer last year between them - no idea if they use it mind you….

Something consumable. A posh food hamper, a selection of cheeses, some fancy chutneys, posh chocolates etc

Topbird29 · 14/12/2025 13:40

Ours in 80s - but have always loved pottering around garden centres (have about 6 near by so they rotate!). Even if they don't buy anything, they also like coffee/cake/food whilst there, so vouchers are usually accepted well as can use in cafe too (dependent on type). Or they use in spring time. Last year bought them single fleecey blankets for on the sofa or chair (as sit separately). Have done a dab radio when theirs died before. And consumables, as they say they don't want more stuff to keep ?(unless useful or asked for). Books, that they pass on once read, dark chocolate and also usually get the Green and Blacks selection box of small bars that they share, smoked nuts, bottle of gin, beers - and alcohol free versions too. They are very generous to us and kids, so it's sometimes hard to get a balance.

Bird table/feeder
Water bottles
Digital photo frame
Herb windowsill planter
Recipe book
Cook ready meal vouchers

Topbird29 · 14/12/2025 13:42

If they had the right type of garden space we would look into a bird table or bird box with camera, but they don't have the right area for those.

DF was 80 recently and bought him a Fortnum and Mason voucher plus pre booked the afternoon tea for him. He is delighted, loves cake and champagne.

Both my parents would be slightly upset if I bought them 'old people' presents!

NeverBeAPart · 14/12/2025 13:50

Could you just take them out for lunch/afternoon tea? We gave up on presents a few years ago, so go out for a nice lunch instead. It’s something to look forward to in January and saves lots of stress when we’re all fortunate enough to have everything we need.

I have got my mum a ‘make your own willow bird box’ kit. It comes with the willow, plus a 2 hour tutorial course which you get as a separate link. I’ll put the course details on to a special scratch off ‘golden ticket’ I got from Amazon! My mum loves gardening, like to be ‘doing’, likes making wreaths at Christmas etc and loves watching the birds. In years gone by I’ve bought her a decorative glass propagator set, a truffle tree, and a glass storm barometer.

Some fabulous ideas here! Thanks everyone ☺️

Of all the suggestions here I like SergeantWrinkles’ best. I’m 81.

Mischance · 15/12/2025 07:27

I am in my 70s and my AC are giving me a subscription to National Theatre Live at home.
Is there a sub that your parents might enjoy?
I have been clear with them that I do not need any more "stuff"!

Rocknrollstar · 15/12/2025 07:47

Lego kits. DH didn’t want the one he was given but then loved doing it. he’s since made several birds.

Lovetocook49 · 15/12/2025 07:51

Just got mine a digital photo frame but all the family can digitally send it new photos, thought as long as we remember to send them frequently it would be quite good 🤷‍♀️

Yes to this - I'm 71 but don't be buying me presents for Oldies! I don't want a sundial or fleecy blankets... if my sons are reading this I'll have some decent wine, theatre vouchers, and high-end toiletries, thank you very much 😊🎄

Choccymumma · 15/12/2025 11:43

I'm going for theatre vouchers thanks all!
