What age would you say they are for? I am looking for gift ideas for a 2 year old and a 4 year old but they are sisters and it seems easier to get them the same gift or else they will fight.

would they be good for both?

also where do you buy them from? I’ve seen some on Amazon and some on SHEIN and wondering if the SHEIN ones would be any good.

or if you can suggest anywhere else to get them?

I also saw they do a mini travel set which I think could be good. Anyone tried them for when you are out and about?

My little boy got these around 3 but he is now 5 and he does still play with them

JG24 · 14/12/2025 07:53

Aged 2 is probably the young end of the spectrum but they can play with them with help.
Please don't get knock off ones. They have magneta in them so you really need good ones.
I think the main ones are connectix (spelt wrong?) and maganatiles
They are brilliant, I love playing with them!

My 2 yr old likes them my 3.5 yr old can build with them.

Good for 2-5/6 id say

My little nephew LOVES them and I've bought a couple of boxes of the add-on ones for Christmas. They're called Magna-Tiles, which apparently are one of the best makes. He's 3

My two year old loves them, although needs help. Good you which lasts years. I like building with them too!!

My son loved them from 1.5. They're fantastic, I'd go with an official set rather than shein as if they break the magnets can be dangerous if they come out and are swallowed. I'd start with the normal size set and then get a travel set once they get into it

Mauvish1 · 14/12/2025 07:56

My DGC aged 4 and not quite 2 both love them!

I bought some extra ones for them but they were a cheap version and nowhere near as good, the magnets didn't hold. So get the best you can afford.

Sunflower3000 · 14/12/2025 07:57

Definitely buy the branded ones, you don’t want small kids accidentally swallowing magnets

We had Magformers at one point. I'd try to avoid. The set we had could be made into a bike, which was ok, but fell apart the second LO tried to play with it. Very frustrating

We have Amazon one Desire Delux and they are great, and we are adding on the Smyths ball run set this year. Really durable, great fun, probably the best value toy we have for hours of play! I would say get a big set though, we have combined 3 sets now plus the new one from Santa! He is 3 and half and had them at least a year if not a little longer but now he wants to build bigger and bigger!

I am looking at these too, bought my niece(3) a travel set of Magna-tiles micros and she has been playing with them constantly, but I am not impressed with the strength of the magnets and that would put me off buying a bigger set of that brand.

Has anyone noticed the same and which brand was stronger?

Clefable · 17/12/2025 17:07

Honestly we have branded and generic and they are much of a muchness. I think you need quite a lot to be able to make anything really cool so we switched to much cheaper generic after the first Magna-Tiles batch and have never had problems.

They are great though, my 3yo loves them, my 6yo loves them, they are played with regularly.

I bought a Connectix tiles set and it arrived today. Painful on the purse, but magnets are much stronger than the magna-tiles micros and they seem well made with lots of different shapes, so very happy with them. Can't wait to see her play with them now!
