Teacher gift. How much do you spend?

I managed to pick up a bayliss + Harding gift set for £2.70 in the supermarket. It was reduced, probably normally around £5-7. It's nice. I personally think it's enough for my son to give to his teacher.

However I've since found out some parents spend £10-20! So I'm feeling a bit stingy. Oops.

Surely that's ridiculous though? Christmas is expensive enough!

It’s the thought that counts and it sounds like a lovely gift

I do £10 but that’s because I mostly do vouchers. I think teachers get enough tat at this time of year without me adding to it with stuff they have to find space for! You don’t even have to get them anything so just spend whatever you want to.

Just a card here! My son likes to attach small chocs or sweets to his which is a nice touch!

Whole class just adds to a pot of money for vouchers. We put in £15 as there are 2 teachers and a TA in our class.

I usually give a candle from home bargains and a small box of chocs.

i organise a collection for the teachers and TAs at my child’s school and donations vary from £5 per family to £30 - one year I think someone even gave £50!! I’d say most are around £10-15 though, to be split between teachers, TAs and HLTA who covers PPA (well staffed school!). They end up getting a very generous voucher each plus either chocolate or wine and a card.

As a teacher in a private school I used to get a voucher worth approx £10 per child plus usually flowers chocolate and wine (TA got similar) again all collectively pooled from the class. When I worked in a state school in a fairly low income area it was more like a £3 box of malteasers and not from everyone.

whatever you can afford is absolutely fine!

Yea, I did the same when my kids was at school. My friend is a teacher and the amount of random stuff she gets is quite funny but also quite annoying for her. She’s quite environmentally conscious and only buys things she really likes.

I will point out, I will spend more on an end of term 'thankyou' gift. But Christmas... I just feel is a bit unnecessary.

I usually do a £10 voucher for our local Italian coffee shop but this year I got them Lush shower jellies. I thought they’d be easy to regift if it wasn’t their cup of tea.

I have three kids and I do them for teacher and TA so it soon adds up.

Our class does a collection - £25 for staff inc teacher, TA, and other staff like music and PE teacher. I'm very glad there's a central collection, I find it a faff and stressful to choose actual gifts and I'm convinced a lot of it gets wasted.

A homemade card by the child. They have 2 class teachers each plus a TA or 2, I'd be brassic.
I'm making homemade mince pies for the staffroom this year.
