Alcohol in Christmas stockings - would you find it weird or inappropriate?

My DC is recently 18.
I bought him one of those ready mix cocktail cans of espresso martini to put in his Christmas stocking. (I usually get a can of pop, like coke or something).

My friend was horrified, she said it’s “really inappropriate”, and setting a bad example.

I was a bit taken aback. I said that Dc is old enough to legally drink alcohol, that the only younger child in the house to set a bad example to is 16 years old, so it’s not like I’m giving the idea to 4 year olds that Santa thinks booze is cool.
Plus everyone puts out a glass of Sherry or whisky for Santa anyway! I bet there’s a lot less alcohol in a premix cocktail.

And my Dc know it’s me, not Santa, so it’s no more inappropriate than me just buying it for Dc in the supermarket. Friend has younger children, but my Dc isn’t exactly in the habit of telling them everything he got in his stocking, so it’s not setting a bad example to them.

I suppose drinking cocktails first thing in the morning isn’t exactly great - but I doubt Dc will be up before 10 in any case, and no reason to think he’d drink it straight away, he always puts the can of Coke in the fridge and drinks it with a slab of Yule log in the afternoon.

But my friend was SO adamant and said if I couldn’t see why it was wrong there was no point discussing it.
So now I’m wondering in bewilderment if everyone thinks the same as her.

Perfectly fine. Your friend is the weird one. I would prefer it chilled anyway so get him to put it in the fridge once he’s unwrapped it.

Is your friend sober? I have been sober for a couple of years now and my whole opinion on alcohol has drastically changed. I would never tell anyone not to drink but I also wouldn't buy it for them.

DD is 19 and got a little cocktail can last year in her stocking. Will probably get her something similar this year. She doesn't drink that much but will definitely have one or two on a special occasion. I can't see the problem.
