£10 secret santa for random colleague (we don't draw names) - could be male or female, needs to be vegan, nut free, soya free and not alcoholic

So in my new office the secret santa is completely random - you just pull a present out of the sack. So I need to buy something that would suit everyone in the team - men, women, old young, muslim (so no alcohol), vegan, nut free, soya free. So not hard then! £10 limit. What do you think?

There are lots of other options - I got the one which is just under £11, as it was next day delivery. He's ace! Lol

A nice hand cream

Iamblossom · 09/12/2025 18:39

I always buy a father Christmas toilet seat cover in such situations

Poodledoodley · 09/12/2025 18:58

Page a day desk calendar?

A scarf or a mug

Scarf needs to be acrylic as some vegans don't use animal by products.

I bought some bonsai tree seeds from amazon, in a cute box for the secret santa thing at work, hoping that'll be good.

A piece of wood?

Andromed1 · 09/12/2025 20:50

I'd vote for cancelling Secret Santa and instead asking everyone to bring a small treat to share round the office the week before Christmas.

10 scratch cards

I’d love that but judging by the not in the least bit fun guidelines, gambling is also a sin so off the list!

Augustone · 09/12/2025 21:54

You have my sympathies on this one- I would go for some sort of desk accessory/stationery items.

For the second year running we have binned off Secret Santa and do a collection for local charity and a food bank instead. Signs of relief all around and not one single person misses the headache of Secret Santa .

Gloves, mini Molton Brown bath bubbles, good quality unisex hand cream, Christmassy china bowl or plate.

That’s a nice idea

I'd get a card or trivia game. JL have loads for under a tenner.

Bones101 · 10/12/2025 01:08

Why do they bother with a tenner

Tacky Christmas would have been better

Bjorkdidit · 10/12/2025 05:50

Well presumably that's to keep it affordable.

But then it leads just exchanging items that just about everyone could buy whenever they want to and if they can't they'd be better opting out and spending their tenner on something they need, or a treat of their own choosing rather than ending up spending £10 and receiving something they don't want.

Tacky Christmas would only be sensible if it includes a rule that you must not spend any money ie you must regift something you already own or get the item from Freecycle or similar.

Otherwise people are just spending money to receive useless junk, which is never acceptable despite some people thinking that it is 'fun'.

pouletvous · 10/12/2025 06:05

Opt out next year! Sounds ridiculous

Bigminnie1 · 10/12/2025 07:20

Definitely a voucher- M & S/Costa/John Lewis.

ThatIcyPoet · 10/12/2025 12:54

Thermo-mug
A scarf
A pair of funny socks
A pack of fruit snacks
A photo collage calendar with pictures of your city
Desk air humidifier
Tea set
Christmas ornaments

GrassMarketeer · 12/12/2025 21:52

I'd go for something practical.

An umbrella? Saimsburys had a good selection for £7-£10 the other day.

Maybe a mini first aid kit? The sort in a tiny zip up pouch.

Or a torch? Go Outdoors sell a brightly coloured clip on one for £9. https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15984314/nebo-tino-light-15984314
