What are you getting your 1.5 year old for Christmas?

I’m at a loss as to what to buy my daughter for Christmas. She seems too old for little baby toys but, awkwardly, too young for bigger toddler toys. She is our second child so inherited all of her brothers and cousins old toys. She already has blocks, Duplo, stacking towers, activity cubes, balls, xylophone, pounding bench, a fully stocked play kitchen etc x_x

Currently she’s getting a busy board from my in-laws, a magnetic drawing board from one of her uncles and a toddler handbag set thing (as she loves bags and bangles) but I’ve completely run out of ideas now.

I’d love some inspiration. If you also have a 1.5 year old, what are you getting them? Ideally things that don’t take up lots of room! 😅

Tea Set
Train track
Doll and buggy
Other doll stuff, like a bath etc.
Bubbles
Playdoh
Pavement chalk
Pens and paper
Magna tiles
Simple puzzles
Books
Small world stuff e.g. HappyLand
Water play stuff (for the bath or a water play table for the garden).

Following with interest. I’m in exactly the same boat. We’ve also got a magnetic drawing board, some books. Also getting ours their own pencil case and pens (to stop him stealing his sisters). We’re at the point of considering wrapping up some things we have as he won’t know/care, but we want his older sibling to see that he’s getting stuff too.

maybe some extra bath toys? We already have a coffee machine one which is a hit and so we’ve got the oven one for Christmas

Could you get her something like an apron with her name on it to go with the inherited play kitchen? Or build the Duplo into a cool shape (Santa? Rudolph?) so that it seems new/special?

I was the youngest cousin and I still loved unwrapping 2nd hand gifts. Often, it was even more exciting as I had already played with them and knew how good it would be!

Maybe look at Grimms wooden toys? They are beautiful. If she already has lots of stuff from her older siblings / cousins you can go for quality over quantity.

Babipur website also good.

Not getting these for Christmas but here are my 21 months olds favourite toys

A pack of playing cards, spinning chair, jigsaw puzzles, alphabet puzzle, wooden animals, cd player, books (you can never have too many), crayons and colouring books, wooden cars, a foil blanket, flash cards (she loves them, I don't like picking them up 50 times a day), a football, micro scooter, soft toys, helper stool which we use in the kitchen and as a make shift play shop, picnic basket set, number blocks, abacus, air dry clay for making and painting, shopping basket,

For Xmas I'm getting her some connectix, a ballet dress, floor puzzle, books, noughts & crosses and some more flashcards 😅🙄

When my son was less than 2, a play-tent was the absolute best Christmas present he received. Maybe worth considering if you don't have one already. It His was a simple pop-up fire-engine one.. he spent all Christmas taking things in and out and playing in it.

It does take up room, when they are playing with it - but then these tents fold up into small flat circles when you are not, so they aren't exactly permanent space-takers.

If you have spage you could go for something with longevity like a pikler triangle or wobble board. Both are still used in our house at nearly age 6.

We also have a bilibo seat which still gets used and doesn't take up as much space but it was a bit more difficult for my DD to use when she was small.

Thanks for the suggestions! We already have so many of the things listed BUT thanks for reminding me that Magnatiles exist! I’d totally forgotten those and she plays with them at childcare so I think that might be a good idea :D

I’m risking getting my daughter a Yoto… she may be too young for it or may love it according to mixed reviews for that age - we’ll find out!

Our 16 month old is getting:

a wheeley bug
an indoor trampoline (size and age appropriate obvs)
a bean bag
a baby doll and buggy
few wooden cars and food bits
the Melissa and Doug ice cream parlour

He has a big sister and she will enjoy a lot of that too!

I am a grinch, so like the PP who wraps up toys they already have, I think the main reason to give presents to a younger sibling under 2 is to show the older sibling that it's fair and Christmas isn't all about them. Our just-turned-two-year-old is getting quite a lot of stuff like clothes he already needs, and he'll also get supplements to play equipment we already have.

We just got the ice cream parlour for our two in the post today (as their present from Father Christmas)! It looks so fun. I hope they love it 😬

@TheBirdintheCave they will definitely love it! Although I wouldn’t want FC getting the credit for such a good gift - he only brings books in this house 😂

AluckyEllie · 11/12/2025 21:54

My 20 month old boy (also with all the toys from his older sister) is getting:
Toot toot fire station and few vehicles.
Connetix wheels/cars set.
Bath toys including disco ball 😂
smoothie maker and fruit set
Book

LotsOfSmallThings · 11/12/2025 22:04

My 20 month old is getting functional stuff (new plate, bowl, toddler cutlery, socks & tights), stuff that’s boring but she’ll actually love (her own lunchbox and snack boxes), new book, bath crayons, paint pens, fruit cutting set, fishing game (with the magnetic fishing rod) and an ambulance with noise and lights as she is totally obsessed with ‘nee naws’. Oh and an umbrella, which I suspect will be this year’s big hit 😅
