Substantial gift for 1 year old and 5 year old nieces

Evening all, apologies if there is already a similar thread but I’ve looked through and I can’t see one.

Can I please ask what substantial gifts you are buying for your 1 & 5 years old girls, I’m not wanting to buy them multiple gifts because their parents don’t really have space and other family members will already do this, budget around £100 but can increase this for the right gift if needed.

thank you

Is it £100 per child? Does it need to be a shared present?

Isadora2007 · 08/12/2025 20:35

At that price I’d ask the parents… the one year old likely won’t need much tbh but what about a nice pram for a doll for the older child and a buggy and wee doll for the younger?

Gorgeous heirloom pieces by Olli Ella- pull along wagon for the 45 year old and a luggy for the little one.

Or a large Grimms rainbow or building blocks set.

One year olds love those sturdy push along dogs on wheels

Yes £100 per child, separate gifts

Could you get an annual membership for something?

I’m a member of a local house & gardens with huge adventure playground - we go often!

Sillysoggyspaniel · 08/12/2025 20:54

Would an electric keyboard work for the older one? With headphones.

I’ve asked my brother and his wife and they have no idea either, I had my niece the weekend and they had hoped she’d mentioned something to me to help them out. We spoke about Christmas and she said she wanted a tambourine and a snow globe.

I’ll have a look at your ideas now, thank you

We gave her something similar for her 1st birthday in November, but thank you

Does the 5 year old have a Yoto player? If not, get that.

I’ve thought this and for my 5 years old niece being with us monthly it would be great, but it’s not something her own family would use unfortunately.

She has one on her bedroom at our house yes

If they are short on space what about something useful for the one year old eg a decent snow suit and maybe some dressing up bits for the 4YO? If you dont mind plastic my 4YO is obsessed with her gabby dollhouse that folds up really small and you can buy the rooms that fit into it for around £15 each.

Oh I’ve already got those, but I’d like to get her a main gift too

I'd go Lego and Duplo, and put some money in their banks.
Or get them tickets to somewhere.

wafflesmgee · 08/12/2025 21:06

How about tickets to go to the theatre with you? Eg my parents always took my girls to the ballet at some point in the year and gave them a pair of ballet themed pjs and an Angelina ballerina book for Christmas plus a card explaining it, then they got excited leading up to the performance reading the book, then after they wore the pjs to a sleepover with my parents. They still talk about it now, lovely memory making. I think the anticipation was part of it.
there’s loads of kids shows you could theme it around eg the gruffalo

alternatively get them something small and save the rest in bank accounts for them then give them the money when they turn 18 to pay for all their driving lessons. Their future selves would love you for that.

you could also consider sponsoring a hobby for them eg ballet/gymnastics lessons or music lessons

molifly · 08/12/2025 21:07

Tonie box

I like those ideas.

I don't know about these kids but so many kids end up with far too much stuff, esp if they are in wrap around care etc.
And nothing is more depressing than clearing out expensive toys that have been outgrown and hardly played with

Flibbertyfloo · 08/12/2025 21:12

Don't get something expensive for the sake of it. Get them some lovely things to open and whack the rest in a stocks and shares ISA. That will be much more useful to them in life.

Snowtoast · 08/12/2025 21:36

A larger Duplo, Playmobil or Sylvanian set will be near enough £100.

Hi could you post a link to this house, please?

JG24 · 08/12/2025 21:44

Yoto player?

JG24 · 08/12/2025 21:47

How about a subscription to one of those delivery services?
The 5 year old would be a good age, there's loads of crafty ones or book themed ones

Nextweektoo · 08/12/2025 21:47

Baby annabell doll for 5 year.old. Wooden activity table for one year old

Superfrog3 · 08/12/2025 21:52

Subscription/ annual pass( my kids got annual passes for a local theme park and its been the most valuable/ used present) or a day out with yourself if you can- panto/ show/ ice skating- children often dont need stuff but always thrive from happy memories. If none of these and you want something physical - wooden dollhouse, a nice solid one. Tonie box for 1 year old? Projector? You get some that read stories ect.
