Tricky
cant go wrong with chocolate. Even if they don’t like, someone in family will.

i never ever buy people alcohol that I don’t know well

We were having this discussion last night for DS's lovely sport (outdoor, winter sport) coaches

I think we are going red wine, xmas card of their team and I'm putting in a candle for their wives as I know how much time it can take away from family as DH used to do it!

We do know they drink though. I think both eat healthily so wanted to avoid chocolate.

I liked the rechargeable hand warmer idea but DH vetoed.

We also nearly went with Go Ape vouchers as they have kids.

Thanks. So difficult! I think I'd find it easier if it was females.

Also outdoor sport here. Feel like I'd like to recognise they give up one night a week, and their Sunday's for this group of boys.

Beer, wine or bottle of fizz surely? Then even if they don’t drink it they can gift it to a host or family for Christmas?

DH is a coach and he absolutely LOVES any gesture of thanks even if he wouldn’t personally eat / drink / like it; it’s most definitely the thought that counts.

I’m a coach. It’s the thought that counts. Wine or voucher or just card. A thankyou goes a long way

Mydadsbirthday · 08/12/2025 23:26

I give tins of biscuits or boxes of chocolate, small things really but so many of these folks over the years have been volunteers and many of them have been so touched by small gifts at Christmas. I'm so grateful to people like the chap who ran a local music group that my DS went to for years and many similar.

Honestly, anything that acknowledges them will be appreciated! Giving up your weekend sucks! It’s nice to be appreciated. A card and consumable would be nice, but equally if the team are pulling together a voucher (maybe for a sports or outdoor store?)

DH is a coach, he's had chocolate, biscuits, wine, case of beer, keyring, photo of team with coaches/manager, funny t shirt with a phrase often said at training on, restaurant voucher, bottle opener, stadium tour voucher etc. Bigger items tend to be group gift rather than from an individual.

As others have said it's the thought that counts. He particularly loves it when the kids take the time to write a message in the card.

I’m a coach (and a Cub Leader!) chocolates and biscuits are always welcome. I don’t buy any of that most years as I get given enough stuff. A nice card with a message is always lovely too

Biscuits or chocolates safest.
Alcohol can be awkward.

But most appreciated... get your child to write a card.
