What are you putting in a ‘fancy food’ hamper

Sil has requested a hamper of naice food that she probably wouldn’t purchase for herself
so far I’ve picked up a jar of honey and some biscuits. I’d prefer that non of the things need to be refrigerated. What would you put in? Total budget around £100 and I’ve spent £20 so far

Fancy t bags
posh bottle of olive oil
more biscuits/ chocolates
bottle of wine
posh chutney/ olives

FunnyDeer · 07/12/2025 22:11

Pesto, whole coffee beans, and sun dried tomatoes

AbzMoz · 07/12/2025 22:12

Some good / interesting tea or coffee (or if for my SiL hot chocolate, the trimmings for it, etc).
If she enjoyed holidays in certain countries this year the spices, oils, etc from there?

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 07/12/2025 22:14

Olives
a sourdough loaf
nice chocolates
bottle of fizz

Ineffable23 · 07/12/2025 22:14

I think I'd want to make a theme or a couple of themes so:

Sherry/port/wine and cheese/charcuterie

Waitrose quince cheese (like a quince jelly for cheese).
Maybe a tomato chutney.
Some really good cheeses.
Peters Yard crackers.
Millers toast crackers
A bottle of amontillado sherry (Waitrose again)
Maybe a really nice saucisson sec

The honey, could be combined with a few bits to make a breakfast section maybe?
A really good strawberry jam (tiptree little scarlet maybe?)
A lovely locally roasted coffee?
Fortnums do lovely loose leaf tea. Or so do whittards.
(More high street accessible, I recently discovered M and S half caff gold blend which is jolly tasty, though maybe too every day. I just hadn't realised it existed.)
Could add smoked salmon or smoked trout or smoked salmon pate.

Then the biscuits maybe form a sweet treats or an afternoon tea section:
Florentines
Waitrose Fleur de sel caramel chocolate or Waitrose caramelised pistachio chocolate

Obviously one could spend an infinite amount on those hampers so I've probably over fantasised and spent double the budget.

I’d put in some posh chocolates (preferably local business)
Mini proseccos / wine
Nice crackers / biscuits.
Basically things she can pick at over Christmas

Ineffable23 · 07/12/2025 22:15

Oh and another thing I would never normally spend the money on but I love good olive oil and belazu Balsamic vinegar but that's got so expensive now it would probably eat a big chunk of the budget on its own

pinkksugarmouse · 07/12/2025 22:24

It depends on what foods she likes and if the hamper is just for her or for others too. I'm vegan so probably not the best to advise but if I was being gifted a hamper just for me I would like;
Nice crisps
Same with a bar or box of chocolates
Luxury granola or muesli
Nuts maybe with a flavour but not hot spicy
A jam or chutney or preserve
Crackers

I suggest maybe a gingerbread house kit. If indeed she eats gingerbread. Or a cupcake decorating kit. Just a bit of fun.
But it depends on her tastes. And dietary requirements.

I did a clean sweep of the delli market website for food bits, so much on there! Thai crispy chilli oil, almond cashew butter, Hugo spritz cocktail, jar of fancy looking nuts, tomato balsamic vinegar, olive oil, miso vinaigrette (have I spelt that right?! Probs not!), can’t remember now, spent about £100 and I’m really pleased with what came. Mostly stocking bits and some things for a food parcel for my nephew who’s quite foody.

ShodAndShadySenators · 07/12/2025 22:55

Black garlic is quite a thing now, I've bought some for DH's stocking. Also Pretzel Pete's pretzels, nice fudge, M&S's golden blond spread

DefiniteMeteor · 07/12/2025 22:57

Have you got an upmarket garden centre/farm shop near you? Garsons or similar?
just go there and spank your £80. Won’t take more than ten minutes.

Ddakji · 07/12/2025 22:57

Chutney
Olive oil or similar
crackers for cheese
olives
jam
chocs
biscuits

Look at what’s in a fortnum’s hamper and take it from there.

RollyPollyBatFace · 07/12/2025 23:21

id go for less items but higher end stuff. Otherwise you end up with a less luxury feel. So stick to maybe 6-7 items

pouletvous · 07/12/2025 23:34

Go to a farm shop and see what they have

This would be my answer too, our one does some really nice flavoured olive oils, not only taste delicious, but would look good in a hamper.

id also get some of those Italian filled rolls, think they’re called Canoli or something like that. The lemon ones are delicious!

LancashireButterPie · 08/12/2025 08:43

I love @ineffable23 idea of theming the hamper. Why have I never thought of this? Especially a breakfast/brunch one.
