Gift ideas for DH - what are you getting yours?

Need inspiration for gifts for my DH please and wondered if it would be useful in general? A couple of years ago, there was a good thread with ideas for gifts for husbands/partners!

In my case, DH says he has everything he needs/wants when I’ve asked him. And generally buys himself whatever he wants throughout the year.

Normally, I’ve done experiences - fancy restaurants, gigs. He likes cycling, running, football, DIY, endurance stuff. Also likes a gadget - got him Apple tags a few years ago recommended by thread and it was great. Other successes were good leather hold-ons and travel bags.

Not sure if this idea is a bit specialised but could be a fun gadget, if a bit pricey. A radio scanner which you can use to listen to communications from planes going over including ones at 40,000ft. Also boats etc too. You can pay a tenner to get it preprogrammed with aircraft frequencies. Uniden scanner
Fun to pair with plane finder apps.

Uniden UBC125XLT Scanner – Airband, Marine & Mountain Rescue Order Pre-programmed Channels.

The Uniden UBC125XLT is a compact, high-performance handheld scanner designed for radio enthusiasts, aviation spotters, and professionals. With 500 programmable channels and wide frequency coverage, it’s perfect for monitoring civil aviation, marine, a...

No DH, but I have a DP (same sex relationship)

I’ve got her a LEGO Polaroid camera and Calvin Klein underwear. In her stocking, she has jogging bottoms, Aveeno moisturiser and a bamboo hairbrush.

DH said all he wants is a rotary cheese grater ! Need to find a nice one
I already have bought him a fancy cast iron salt pot to go with his fancy cast iron pepper grinder I bought a few years back
He loves a practical gift but I feel it's a bit much! Might have to do a nice bottle of gin too

AhBiscuits · 08/12/2025 19:31

A cheese subscription from the Fine Cheese Co.
Rechargeable hand warmers.
A book.

Short answer- no idea 🤷‍♀️

If someone has a specific hobby, THEY have far more knowledge about it than me, so I generally avoid gifts connected to that. Some ideas though:

-DH loves these underpants. He is tall and the longer leg version don't roll up his thighs: https://uk.stepone.life/pages/mens-underwear
-For a novelty stocking filler a man tin https://uk.royaldeals.co.uk/product/the-bright-side-man-tin/B004T8MVME/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22438561674&gbraid=0AAAAA-Z9Rw6kn8a3LP-QSWaxPZOYd4KYk&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi9rJBhCYARIsALyPDtt3AnFbHW2MEXFUbbPmX66K2xzRWihlvauvGqRhdN6UTMJpU4nkrIkaApe4EALw_wcB
-The tin could be filled with jerky/biltong, these jelly beans https://www.aldi.co.uk/product/dominion-original-jelly-beans-000000000400448001, hot sauce, chilli sauce or a chocolate orange etc
-If he cooks, a meat temperature probe
-If he gardens, then Wolfe brand secateurs are great or Gold leaf garden gloves
-my DH rarely drinks, but in the past I've bought a bottle of 12 star metaxa
-Leather or nicer luggage labels
-Magnet bottle opener for the fridge. You can buy similar from amazon/ebay etc but the link gives you the idea of what I mean www.suck.uk.com/products/bottleopenerfridgemagnet/

Thanks so much for all the ideas. I panic brought a three-month coffee bean subscription last night. I also wondered about a cheese subscription.

Reckon both my MIL and BiL would love the radio scanner, but not my husband!

Love the idea of 12 dates, but feels slightly tricky as we have young children and live far from family. We have a great babysitter but don’t think I could get her to commit to 12 nights in advance. But maybe I should have a think about what I could make work!

DP has an annoying pre Christmas birthday so he getting some after shave (which is running out) and some posh socks for his birthday. He asked for a navy blue crew neck jumper (bought and hidden). I need something else, however!

CoastalCalm · 08/12/2025 20:39

Another one with a DH with a December birthday , we were just going to do stocking fillers but his petrol rotivator went up in smoke at the allotment so I’ve bought him a battery one as joint present (he usually hates a joint gift but ok about this)

Alongside for Christmas I’ve got him a bottle of rum , some aftershave and a set of mini M&S aftershaves so he can pick which one he likes as a day time for work one going forward. He’s also got a Hori Hori knife for the allotment and I’ll get him some treats

Can I ask what style jeans are in for men these days please? My DH is feeling down about his wardrobe so this would be perfect - he's wearing the same pair of maroon pants from college 10+ years ago.

Someone mentioned camping supplies - fab and I'm running with that idea too! Mine has camping on his 2026 wishlist but all we have are sleeping bags. Any good family tent recommendations?

Well I don’t know what the cool kids are wearing but dh just wears a straight leg style dark blue.

The guy loves his head torch so I have bought him a hat with a light in the front. Skiing gloves as he gets cold hands though we don’t ski, chocolate, a small keg of beer, a blue jumper.

My 6ft 7 husband buys a lot from 2tall as they specialise in clothes that are just longer, not wider.

American Tall are great too, and they ship to the UK

Ifitaintgotnoswing · 09/12/2025 19:53

A good torch? DP has one that turns night into day. trick is to avoid the amazon ones lying about the amount of light the produce.

Specialagentblond · 09/12/2025 19:54

A hoodie and a foot massager for under his wfh desk.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 09/12/2025 19:59

My DP is massively into his wines so I've just printed out a homemade voucher for a weekend away near a vineyard with a tasting there and a couple of night's in a cosy hotel in the nearby town (I will admit that there is obviously an upside to this gift for me too...)

GRCP · 09/12/2025 20:07

Nothing exciting here - we bought each other tickets to a show we want to see. Then to unwrap on the day: bottle of vanilla vodka, a fleece, trainers, books, keyboard for his work computer, and a couple of little stocking bits like chocolate, socks, pants. I might get him a new phone charger cause the kids keep nicking his.

EllaPaella · 09/12/2025 21:16

My DH is so hard to buy for as if he really wants a thing he tends to buy it for himself but isn’t at all frivolous (unlike me).
He’s asked for some nice PJ bottoms so I’ve bought him a pair from Fatface. A book, a selection of locally crafted IPA, some fancy dark chocolate, a fancy bottle of gin and a hand carved personalised wooden box for his guitar picks.

ShaunaOfTheDead · 09/12/2025 22:53

A vintage Ercol hifi cabinet, to house his stereo components (record deck, amp, etc.) which have been in storage for probably 20 years. Looking forward to dusting off the albums.

My dp has the audacity to have a birthday just before Christmas so I have to think of double presents!

He's getting a gas pizza oven for the garden/camping for this birthday and some comedy gig tickets, a jumper and some extra carving tools for Christmas.

Similar. My DH has his birthday on 2nd Jan so I have the double present problem.

This year for Christmas he asked for:

  • a new book from one of his favourite authors
  • A game expansion for Carcassonne
  • A Joules Rugby shirt
I got him those and in addition will be surprising him with:
  • a jigsaw of the local area
  • Large coffee table type books containing remastered photos from the Gemini, Mercury and Apollo missions. We went to an exhibition with some of these earlier in the year and it was fascinating
  • A telescope - bit of a long shot that but I think he might like it and I got a very good Black Friday deal

For his birthday I have got him a mahoosive Lego, I KNOW he will like that.

@Squiggles23 Grumpy Mule coffee beans are good. We get them from Costco. I believe M & S do them as well.
Nice/personlised coffee mug?

Thermal gloves
Bamboo socks
Solar power bank
Car accessories - de mister pad,, windshield cover, new mats, etc. A cold weather emergency pack to keep in the boot - thick blanket, water, warning sign/flashing light, torch, biscuits, sweets.

I would love a car cold weather kit
