Any ideas for a 40 y.o. Man with no hobbies?

I have to get a present, roughly £45 max value, for a family member who really only goes to work, comes home and cooks dinner, and plays with his DCs. Isn’t into books, doesn’t have time for travel anymore, no sports interests or desire to go to concerts/plays…And last time I drew him, I did a decent job with a smoker for his beloved BBQ but he now has all he needs for that.

Any ideas? Thanks

He sounds like my Dh!

He has appreciated in the past:

very good quality slippers (deathly dull gift though)

leaf blower for the garden

new game for the family Nintendo

grown up Legos

if the budget was bigger - a wine fridge was much liked (for that for dh 40th). Failing that an aerator gadget and a decent bottle of red wine.

This year I got him an electronic massager for Christmasas he has some back pain (bit older than your dh)

Toblerone

warm gilet jacket for the garden

upgrade to various small bits of tech

subscription to another flipping streaming service (Paramount I think, on special offer)

He did NOT like the expensive car detailing kit I bought for him!

Following for ideas. My db liked a hamper of retro sweets I got him once

He’s exactly like my brother, who in the past I’ve given:
Venus fly trap
Coffees of the world discovery set
Craft beer selection
Terrarium
Bacon curing kit
Beer scratch-off poster
Molton Brown gift set
Fire TV stick

A voucher for a shop/online business you know he shops at.
And a chocolate Santa.

Leather belt

Gloves

socks

jumper

board game

blue tooth speaker

Photo frame for his desk

Thank you for all of these. Also some useful
ideas for my actual DH (also tough to buy for) but this is a male relative I’ve drawn in the annual secret Santa. So good slippers would be lovely but raise quite an eyebrow 🤣 (And yes, I’ve done the good slippers in the past for DH…but, that may be an idea again as his old ones need replacing….🤔)

But there are some great ideas here from everyone, thank you all! Heading off to get dragged down rabbit holes on t’interweb with those suggestions

Some smoking chips for his bbq in different flavours? Some posh meat rubs. I got some for ds and he liked those.

A poker set/ chess set? Guiness book of records plus dandy/ beano and some nice chocolate and cheeses/ a bottle of something?

OMGitsnotgood · 03/12/2025 14:41

Does he drink? My DH likes brandy and is always happy with a bottle of something different than his usual to try. Or some good wines.

if he likes curry, one of those round metal spice boxes with various spices plus a cookery book ‘Dishoom: from Bombay with love’ is a lovely book a great recipes, with lots of photos and information about the area.

If he likes barbecuing, a good butcher voucher. With a long expiry date so he can save it for the warmer weather!

A basket full of random cookery ingredients, unusual mustards, spicy sauces, flavoured oils, smoked salt, curious pasta shapes, every spice you can think of (saffron, vanilla pods etc), an olive wood chopping/serving board, a dish or two and some novelty tongs/spoons/whatever. Maybe find out if he has a pestle and mortar, as that could be a good shout to go in as well. £45 easily spent on that lot.

Basically, go to the food & kitchen utensils sections of TK Maxx. 😂
