What's a good secret santa present ?
My person is middle aged lady , lovely . Kids but very far apart so a family game won't necessarily work. She doesn't drink. I'd love to give something really useful and nice rather than wine or toiletries. Any inspiration?

I have a similar lady. I’m thinking of bird house, bird feeding stuff, hyacinth in a vase, some bulbs some flower seeds. Would love inspiration from someone else

How about some posh confectionery or a pot of local honey?
Some Seasalt socks (they do pretty seasonal ones).
A pair of knitted gloves?
A book you think she might enjoy, fiction or non fiction.
A map of local walks.
A pretty pottery bowl.
A Christmas decoration for her tree.

I've just posed for help with mine

Oh a bird house or an insect hotel is a good one. I wa thinking of an umbrella or something else useful. Or a nice travel cup/ lunch bag for work maybe?

Socks and the bowl seem good ideas
I don't know her food taste unfortunately

A purse from TKMaxx, you could a nice coloured leather one for a tenner. Nice notebook\ journal/ planner. Mugs or glasses. TK Maxx are great for all sorts of presents!

Noshadelamp · 03/12/2025 04:10

Nice notebook and pen
Tea light candle holder or oil burner
Mug with hot chocolate sticks
Indoor plant
Photo frame

A personalised Christmas mug from Etsy? She could get it out every year for Christmas so have longevity
Or some lovely chocolates from Hotel Chocolate

I would personally be gutted if someone got me some random bird feeding stuff for Christmas unless there is a specific hobby you know about. It’s meant to be a little treat for the recipient. I would feel like someone in the office didn’t like me if they got me that 😩

I always think socks and chocolate are a nice present when you don't know someone's specific interests.

I'm in two secret Santas this year and I've drawn two people I barely know. I've got them a handmade Christmas ornament some Hotel Chocolat and some Fatface festive socks.

How old is middle aged? Your list reads a bit more like 60 plus.

I’m 40 and I’d be happy with: chocolate, a paperback book from the modern classics / must reads table in Waterstones, a nice plain moleskin style notebook, a pair of decent socks.

I’d be disappointed in; a candle (costing under a tenner) an ornament of any kind, a personalised mug, something for the garden as I might not have one.

A torch.

Bear with me, I got one for my dad a few years ago (not as an Xmas present) it is a wind up torch combined with a radio, it has a sola panel and two USB ports.

I got it in case of power cuts (Actually I got one for myself) but he has used it a lot.

It might not be fancy but but is practical.

EleanorReally · 03/12/2025 06:22

a nice calendar

StormywalksWinter · 03/12/2025 06:55

Travel mug, hot chocolate sachet & marshmallows

EleanorReally · 03/12/2025 07:30

i would hate marshmallows

heavenknow · 03/12/2025 07:33

I would love this. Small practical things (but not cheap shit from temu) is the way to go.

the best way to think is if it ends up in a charity shop will someone else buy it?

HelloGreen · 03/12/2025 07:43

The M&S light up projector biscuit tin is a tenner. If they don’t like it for themselves then it’s easily passed on.

I once got my dad a mini tool box that looks like a book. He keeps in on the book shelf, the screw driver in it fits his glasses when they need tightening. You don't know how useful something is, I find, until you have to use it.

Do you have a link for this please?

Sorry I can't remember where I got it from, I have looked on Amazon and IWOOT but nothing similar.

CoffeeTeaCheese · 06/12/2025 05:39

Good quality cleaning cloth for specs with a nice pattern on it if she wears specs

A high quality version of her favourite type of tea bags or loose leaf, if you know what she drinks

A book with a gift return token in case she wants to change it

Chocolateteabag · 06/12/2025 07:28

A compact umbrella - TKmaxx or Boots - something which will be useful either to have in the car or at work

jf you are near a Booths - new cloth bag and chocolates?

if in doubt - always go for consumables - a coffee shop voucher or biscuits/regiftable alcohol
