That proper Christmas ‘smell’

Trying to find that proper real Christmas smell of a tree in the form of something tween-friendly (so sadly, not a candle)

Open to anything else such - hit me with suggestions please!

Scented tree sticks dotted around? Could decorate with some ribbon or just hide under/behind things

Google Christmas tree oil, to find various fragrance oils. Dab on bits of the tree and a few dabs on a radiator or on cotton wool balls poked behind a radiator, so when the heating is on it warms up and helps spread the scent.

Are you able to recommend any at all please?

Oooh! Interesting. Never heard of this, thankyou. Off to Google now.

I got Scentsicles - smelt them in B&Q but some scrubber had took the actual sticks out of the pots so had to order online - will be my first time trying them though so not sure how long they last but the smell is super strong. “o Christmas Tree” scent is gorgeous

BeckySharpest · 28/11/2025 15:00

I have a packet of Scenticles which I can only have out for about an hour before someone complains their eyes are watering. It's strong stuff - for that golden hour I stick them in the Christmas tree and the cats avoid it for the rest of the time its up.

Reed diffuser with a cedar wood scent or similar. The pine-scented ones sometimes smell a bit 'toilet cleaner' though, so maybe do a sniff test first!

TrickyD · 28/11/2025 16:56

I am a fan of Sensicles. They last for ages. Keep unused ones in their jar and they will be fine for next year.
However I could do with some new ones to supplement the left overs but they have become much more expensive. Any suggestions for a cheap source?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 28/11/2025 21:27

Also a scentsicle fan.

Go easy with these! I sprinkled one on our artificial tree and it was very strong. But agree that used sparingly they do have a lovely Christmas smell. I’m still using a little bottle of oil called Christmas Tree I bought from Sainsbury’s for a couple of quid several years ago.

Why not a candle in a safe place?

ghostiewhisp · 28/11/2025 22:26

What about a reed diffuser?

I have candles, they are nearly dead. Not particularly keen on replacing like for like as I have a tween and without outing myself, my physical capacity is limited and we aren’t safe with them.

Absolutely fair enough, hope I didn’t offend.

Any way you can have any real foliage? We always have a real tree, and they really do emit a fabulous scent.

if not, my favourite candle is from The Botanical candle company (quiescent) and I think they now do reed diffusers. I recommend them.

Absolutely no offence taken, please don’t think you did offend me 😀 I am grateful for the input of everyone and all comments, honestly x

I think my search is done, thanks to the MN community. DD would welcome ALL suggestions on here and stupid me didn’t even think of real foliage 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ll probably end up buying all the products now!!

I got a reed diffuser in Aldi called "Christmas tree shopping" which smells lush in the packet, haven't tried it out for real yet though and also there might not be many left... (my favourite Christmas smell though is the White Company's Winter, but that's oranges and spices not tree scented!).

I think I missed that boat, I was in Aldi very recently (a fee times!) and despite looking, didn’t see that particular scent. Damn!

I love the white company fir tree oil. I dab it onto kitchen roll and pop it down the back of radiators and the smell permeates nicely ❤️
