Stocking fillers for 1 year old

LadyGreyandlemoncurd · 26/11/2025 15:45

I’m looking for some stocking fillers for DD (she’s 20 months old).

She’s got an older brother so she’s inherited/shares a load of his toys so there isn’t really anything she needs or wants (apart from a doll with accessories which I’ve already bought as her main gift).

She loves books so I’ve already bought a couple of those, but otherwise I’m completely stuck (she’ll get a bit of chocolate and some fluffy socks too).
Her older brother has quite a few things and although she obviously can’t count, he’ll be aware that he has a lot more and so I want to make it look reasonably equal.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?

To make it more difficult we also live abroad and we’re traveling back to spend Christmas in the UK with our families so I don’t want to choose anything too big/fragile/heavy. We fly back on Boxing Day so she won’t have time to use things like bubble bath or eat loads of treats (although I’m sure she’d be willing to make a valiant effort 😂)

She’ll get a balance bike and doll push chair when we get home but I’m obviously not going to cart them half way across the world!

For really little ones, gifts can be things you are going to buy anyway. If you were home I would say some new toiletries.

Since you are traveling, get some small toys that you can use for entertainment on the trip
home.

At that age we tried to use things they needed, maybe a small toy or two like a rattle, but then filled it up with toiletries, small snack packs etc

Stacker cups,
bath toy/ duck
wooden musical instrument
small soft doll or bag

My little one is a similar age and we are giving things she needs - such as clothes, hair clips - they could work for being light enough for travelling with for you. Do you have anything like a yoto or tonies player as a story for those could also be a good option.

I got my children playsilks at a similar age. They are light, easily packable and my kids played with them right the way through primary school. There ones in shops are very expensive, but I bought a batch of large white/undyed scarves and dyed them in rainbow colours. They became skirts, scarves, fairy wings, cloaks for a witch or a knight. lava, grass, the sea, Halloween costumes, puppets, dolls' outfits, picnic blankets for doll picnics, backdrops for puppet shows, juggling toys, thinkg to dance with, teddy bear camping gear. battleground scenery, something to hide behind...

Also boring things like a toothbrush, basic clothes and toiletries etc.

This is such a nice idea- I hadn’t heard of them before but she’d love them (and her brother will definitely be keen to use them as a super hero cape too!)

We have a Tonie box but that’s a good idea, I can get her some stories and music Tonies that she’ll like (she loves music and dancing so that’ll be perfect)

I’d be throwing brother’s old toys into a stocking!

Ask him if he would like to give baby some gifts and take him “shopping” through his old toys to pick out what might be right.

Mudandsleep · 26/11/2025 17:23

A chunky first water colouring book, maybe a soft hand puppet or bath mitt that you can roll up easily to take home.

HolyMoly24 · 26/11/2025 18:45

A torch, a water wow colouring book, small tube of bubbles, a cuddly toy, suitable figurines of favourite characters (I found some nice chunky teletubbies ones on Vinted for my one year old for her stocking) , little pair of slippers/wellies depending on how big your stockings are

Fridgetapas · 26/11/2025 19:10

Individual Toot toot cars
Little pots of play dough
Does she have a toy kitchen at home? Bits for that like a kettle, toaster, play food.
Individual Schleich animals to add to her toy animals back home
A mini peg puzzle
Reusable sticker book
Travel sized Aqua Doodle or water colouring books
Sing along microphone
Fisher price little people Disney Princesses
Small wooden Xylophone
SMARTMAX animals
Bath books or small travel buggy books that clip onto buggy

Luckyforsome23 · 26/11/2025 20:26

What about some fruit?

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/11/2025 21:50

  • little people figures / happy land figures (you can get bundles off vinted or ebay)
  • crayons
  • wooden magnetic train
  • hand puppet
  • hair bobbles or small character hairbrush
  • set of jingle bells
  • tubs of scented playdough (£1.50 in the entertainer)

Baff bombs - they won't spill in transit and aren't as big or heavy as bubble bath.

Hair clips.

A few snacks that would be good for the journey home.

Small world animal / Lanka Kade chunky wooden figure.

Paint brushes set - lightweight, small and can be used for water play before you head home, and actual paints back at home.

BarnacleBeasley · 26/11/2025 22:04

I've got mine a nice water bottle as he's been using sippy cups but is probably ready for a straw bottle now.

Our play scarves are 5 years old now and still get used for EVERYTHING 🥰

I am in the exact same position! How about clothing / pjs to bulk it up?
