Best sustainable gift ideas

I was scrolling through my feed this morning and ended up spontaneously buying a couple of things from The Guardians sustainable gift guide.

So it is decided, I am going all sustainable this year with my gifts and would love some inspiration. Hoping to get them all ordered by this weekend so I can relax a bit.

I still need to buy for one new single parent with a newborn. Four couples aged 30-45. The parents and in-laws, and my grandmother. About £40-60 budget each.

I have decided to give all the nieces and nephews aged 7-19 book vouchers (feels sustainable) and have bought a sustainable hamper for my lovely neighbour who always looks after the cats, and a scarf for my best friend- bought from the list above!

Is it impersonal to buy the same gift for multiple couples? I think a few people may enjoy what I have already selected for someone else. Any inspiration would be great!

What are your favourite sustainable brands?

Well, the most sustainable option is nothing. Are you close to them/are they expecting gifts? I'd much rather have nothing than more "stuff" no matter how sustainable it supposedly is.

Vouchers for theatre or meals out somewhere nice (offer of babysitting?) would be my suggestion

I love receiving lovely gifts so I assume others do too? I do baby sitting but wouldn't consider that a gift, but a joy. If they use and enjoy the present it's not a waste.

Someone got me some luxury fair-trade chocolates last year and I loved them. I also got some lovely soap with an interesting story but can't remember the brand. They did not go to waste.

I always like to have something to open I think it's really special.

Depends on the person but I received a gift subscription to Ethical Consumer and continued with my membership. It’s really handy and such a wake up call!

that's a really lovely idea @ClaredeBear I had never thought of something like that.

Sure, but I don't particularly like gifts from people who just feel they need to get me something

The suggestion of babysitting was so that they would be able to go out with the theatre/meal tickets without juggling a baby 😊

@Brackenfield I really enjoy gift giving and receiving
