5 yo toy that does something

I’m looking for a Christmas present for my five year old. She is so jealous of all the toys that do things that her brother gets and she wants something fun, that she doesn’t have to animate, or craft, or invent.

What are some good ideas for her?

Fwiw I hate plastic tat, but I think maybe this is what she wants!

Dd is 5 and just had her birthday. The big hits were a robot dog and a marble run with a ferris wheel

I also like the look of this for my two, it will probably go into the share bundle on Christmas because I know they will both like it although I imagine it is aimed at younger kids.

Oh thank you so much.

I wasn't trying to be rude or facetious, but what is wrong with asking her rather than second guessing?

So she wants a toy that does something she doesn't have to animate - it does something independently, at the press of a button, or by switching it on. That does suggest something remote controlled, like a car or a robot or animal that runs around/climbs up walls. Or something like a musical keyboard perhaps? Or some sort of electronic playset where moving figures around in it activates things to make noises and lights. The latter is mostly going to be themed around franchises like Marvel or Paw Patrol or Pokemon or whatever as you don't get many generic playsets with lights and sounds and such.

An example - a Bluey one www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/pre-school-and-electronic-learning/bluey/blueys-ultimate-lights-and-sounds-play-house-playset/p/236026

Blindell · 25/11/2025 18:01

thanks everyone- I think a remote control car might be the way to go

DJ Furby, I'm gonna be playing with my sons one when hes at school

User74939590 · 25/11/2025 19:06

A furby!

If they still exist

BobblyBobbleHat · 25/11/2025 19:08

The hatchimals pufficorn or draggle are both really good. The hatching process is fun and then the creatures itself has quite a few different actions and things.

drspouse · 25/11/2025 19:28

Blue bot or bee bot - teaches coding by stealth too!

DillyDallyingAllDay · 25/11/2025 19:29

I’d recommend a hatchimal. It sings/dances etc and my 5YO loved it. Sounds like what yours is looking for.

AuntieDen · 25/11/2025 19:43

remote control baby yoda? one of those national geographic volcano sets? (I know that needs making but not a lot of crafting for a messy explosion!), stomp rockets, a buzzwire game, or a game like Operation or simon says which is nice and noisy and she can just dive right in?

Would she perhaps just fancy some hot wheels and tracks? At least if she doesn't end up bothering with it your youngest might? I've a 4 year old boy and 6 year old girl and tbh they just kind of interswap toys and both play with each others stuff. Be wary with remote controlled things, we've had a few and they EAT the batteries in no time.

LOL they are pretty horrific but there is a volume setting 😂 sounds like just what your daughter wants. I wouldn’t be happy if I had paid more then £20- some of last years ones might be available at that price- we bought them
after Xmas

PenguinLover24 · 25/11/2025 20:52

Have you seen the pets alive toys? They're pretty cool!

HappiestSleeping · 25/11/2025 20:54

Drum kit. Definitely a drum kit.

Lolalaboucheridesagain · 25/11/2025 21:07

Yoto player. 100% the best gift we have ever bought for DS. He’s now 11 and still uses his every day.

TY78910 · 25/11/2025 21:28

My 5yo asked “Santa” for a gabby’s dollhouse

Anotherdayanotherpound · 25/11/2025 21:56

I really wanted to get one of my children a wooden music box like this hit the older one wouldn’t have cared and the younger would have destroyed it! Still think they’re lovely though. Here’s one example

my 5 year old is having a furby….and some of the little furbys. I had one when they first came out and she wants to be like mummy😂 they’re currently on Black Friday sale on Amazon, think I paid £36? I hope they’ve come on a bit since mine, it used to wake me at 3am saying I’m hungry mumma, feed me…used to frighten the hell out of me!!

missymousey · 25/11/2025 22:44

My 6yo loves the Little Live Pets Walking Penguin she got for her birthday. Still going strong after 6 months. It sings, chirrups, waddles, dances, makes kissy noises and pretends to eat. And is not pink! Highly recommend.

Mine also wants a remote control car like her brother's.
