Christmas gift from Santa that you asked for but never received

Sorry for the taat but the little boy who wants a jet pack from Santa (brilliant!) made me think of those things I cut out of the Argos catalogue year after year and never got.
A Mr Frosty. The advert made it look so good.
An electric keyboard. We had a perfectly playable piano but some this crap keyboard with it's dodgy sound effects seemed better.
Hungry Hippos. I bought this for my DC, the banging on the floor trying to catch the marbles was so noisy it was horrible.
We had lovely childhood Christmases and I got plenty of other lovely gifts that I remember much more fondly than I would these things if I had received them but it makes me chuckle.

A Barbie hot chocolate cafe. It had a window you could flip and 'snow' fell down inside it. There was a dispenser you could fill with chocolate drink. I wanted it so, so much.

And a Scalextric. When my brother was born my mum said that he would get a Scalextric when he was a bit older and I could play with his. I wasn't allowed my own, oddly.

HumerousHumous · 23/11/2025 15:04

I always wanted Simon, the flashing colour / sound game. I have bought one as a family present and it arrived today. Can’t wait for DH and my two twenty somethings to play it.

Roller boots… and I still want a pair.

You can still buy them @OneMoreProfiterole
Mine were royal blue suede with rainbows on and a yellow plastic thing on the front to stop them getting scuffed. I was so in love with them. BUT… I was made to save up to buy my own. The ones I got at Christmas were those red leather extendable sandal type things with a wing nut underneath. They used to come loose then slip off your foot and hang from your ankle!

OSTMusTisNT · 23/11/2025 15:05

I did get a Mr Frosty, biggest disappointment ever.

Never got a scalextric, was desperate for that. Ended up buying one for DS 😂.

My sister is 10 years older than me and had already had things like the Cadburys money box so i never got anything like that as guessing my parents didnt want to buy the same thing (crap?) twice.

Blarn · 23/11/2025 15:05

It was this! I still check ebay every now and then!

All I wanted was lace gloves. I asked year after year when I was younger. Sadly would still like some now ( no idea why before u ask) never got them. I’m 50 now. So don’t think I ever will.

yeesh · 23/11/2025 15:07

Another for Mr frosty ☃️ . I’m not even sure why, we were spoilt rotten and it’s the only thing I asked for that I never got. I remind my mum every chance I get 😂

LittleGreenDuck · 23/11/2025 15:11

A character lunch box with matching flask. Everyone at primary school had one, various characters. I had to make do with a beige piece of Tupperware. Never did get one.

I asked for one of those machines that dispensed a tiny chocolate if you put in a penny. Bloody ridiculous if you think about how much chocolate you could have bought for the purchase price of the machine. ----

Oooh I had 2 of these one Christmas but alas no mr frostie

i also wanted Operation & was told I’d lose the bits (I suspect it was also noisy)

Digglesthedog · 23/11/2025 17:06

I wanted a Winnie the Pooh drawing projector. It just projected a Winnie the Pooh themed image and you could trace it. My friend got one and I was soooo jealous.

Girls world. Still not over it 45 years later

If you want to get it out of my Mum and Dad’s loft you can have my old one. When I was about 10 I stashed it up there after giving it a haircut… they’ll go mad when they see it.

I am well jell. They sound AMAZING!!

TheChosenTwo · 23/11/2025 17:17

Obviously as a child of the 80’s I was DESPERATE for a mr frosty and was disappointed on Christmas Day. I got one for the dc years later and it was indeed complete and utter shite. somehow the disappointment felt even worse as an adult 😭

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 23/11/2025 17:18

Scamps the dog.

3hairspastfreckle · 23/11/2025 17:25

An older brother... Im quite pleased now though that it never happened

Achewyhamster · 23/11/2025 17:25

Pound puppy

One of those foil pictures that you scraped the foil off to reveal the picture underneath (I did get one but my mother took it off me-she regifted it)

Anything to do with my little pony (I own all the ones I wanted as a child now I'm an adult)

My brother got the Mr frosty,I got Charlotte's web on vhs

My mother would buy what she wanted us to have, rather than what we wanted

I seemed to get soap, bath pearls and bubble bath-we only had a bloody shower (which she seemed to forget while buying my presents)

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 23/11/2025 17:27

Mr Frosty like a large proportion of the population! And an electric train set. My dad wouldn't get me one because I was a girl. FFS. Not that I'm still bitter Hmm

when my ds was little someone local was giving away a huge electric train set. I went and got it and gave it to ds for Christmas and it was amazing, soooo good. I had a brilliant time! Ds occasionally got a look in too.

I had this, it was awesome cos I didn't but the chocolate but I did get the money haha.

I didn't get the Mr Frosty tho. why did so many of us NOT get it? who DID??

GooseyGandalf · 23/11/2025 17:36

Mr Frosty.

Santa finally came good for me and it was sitting in the fireplace on Christmas morning, the first Christmas dh and I were together Xmas Smile

Biggest pile of useless plastic crap that was ever made!

Tryingatleast · 23/11/2025 17:38

I always wanted a chemistry set too! Asked three years!

I’m sorry to say I was lucky to have got the Barbie hot choc cafe (back in the day) and can confirm it was as awesome as you imagined it!

Blueuggboots · 23/11/2025 17:42

A baby alive. My mum was horrified that it pooed?? I got a tiny tears instead. 😆

Mumofyellows · 23/11/2025 17:44

Polly pocket house, when I was 10…but I got a pony instead so that cushioned the blow 🤣

GivingUpFinally · 23/11/2025 17:44

The Barbie Dream House with pool, which lit up and had all the accessories including a roast chicken! For the fridge.
