Every year I dont have a clue what to get him. He's 40, doesn't drink, he likes chocolate but I feel like I always get him that. Have bought him a jumper many years. Have also done vouchers but always feels rubbish with everyone opening a present and him just with a voucher. He supports a popular football club but other than that doesnt really have any hobbies. Help!!!

I know it's a bit boring but I always get my Bill socks and he always loves them. Check out Bombas they have some lovely Merino wool ones. Also some hand warmers for when he's watching football in the winter.

Coffee bits hamper
Vintage football jersey
Projector

I have bought the grandkids a couple of AirTags each. They go away quite often so easy to pop into luggage or just into a handbag or rucksack.

Cynic17 · 23/11/2025 08:44

Ditch the idea of "stuff" that he doesn't need. Say that you'll take him out for a drink/meal/football match in the New Year..... you're giving the gift of your time, and you'll all have an event to look forward to.

My go to pressie in these situations especially men that I find difficult is a Camembert baker and cheese voucher from Paxton &Whitfi eld. Always well received [assuming the person likes cheese of course.] I've also done a chocolate hamper with every galaxy bar/biscuit I could find for a friend who loved galaxy chocolate - craft beers and gourmet snacks as also well received but as your BIL doesn't drink that's no good. Hope you find something you think he'll like OP.

Just get him a different kind of posh chocs each year. You can get some well fancy chocolate for 40 quid, whereas the jumper is probably not so hot.

Not to be a miser, but I wouldn't want my bros/sis in law to give one iota of worry about what to get me, it's just a gesture.

Bamboo underwear? What a truly bizarre suggestion 😂😂

Why?

bamboo is the type of fabric softer than cotton
surely you didn’t think they were undies made from sticks of bamboo

I agree with this, I do this for my sister’s in laws who kindly send gifts for my DC so I send a gift back when my sister visits them for Boxing Day.
for my BIL I always get him a bottle of Baileys as he enjoys it over the period between Christmas and new year, or a book. Sometimes I have got theatre tickets for us all to go together.

pizzaHeart · 23/11/2025 10:47

As a profound chocoholic I can reassure you there isn’t too much chocolate.
£40??? It could be just a one item from Hotel chocolate so not exactly tonnes. My family get me chocolate for Christmas, birthday, Mother’s Day etc etc. I’m never disappointed.

Cat1504 · 23/11/2025 10:48

I’ve got 3 BILs…never bought a single thing for any of them….and we are a close family…..just buy for kids

Well obviously I didn’t think that, don’t be a knob.
it’s still a weird gift for a BIL.

Denim4ever · 23/11/2025 10:53

Coffee card if he's a regular customer at one of the well known ones. I suppose that's a voucher, but it's always appreciated by family members here

HoppityBun · 23/11/2025 10:56

The Football club will sell merch, including gift vouchers but probably not possible to use those to. Uk tickets.

Give him a list and ask him which of those on the list he would not want to be given.

rafeal · 23/11/2025 11:46

Pyjamas for football club. I know DH’s team does a very classic pair with just a small badge and good quality. Useful & personal to him. Don’t buy them from Amazon or anything if you want quality - go for the team shop.

PIL buy things like this for him - one year got a really comfy nice quality hoody with a small logo which he wears around the house, with the pj bottoms from another year, all the time. He’s normally very choosy about clothes.

rafeal · 23/11/2025 11:49

Honestly o should just get on with my day. PIL buy these things for DH not your BIL. And the spicy was also from the team shop, with a small logo, not any old shop.

Maybe it’s time to stop gifting in-laws.
