My family have decided not to do presents this year, which makes sense, but is a bit sad after having always gone OTT before. I'm going to get myself a couple of things and not start using them until Christmas Day. But what? I can't think of anything I desperately need. I have bath stuff and chocolate that needs using already. I'm not interested in jewellery, clothes or makeup. I'm struggling to think of anything fun that will actually get used!

Anyway, what are you guys getting yourselves? Inspire me!

Tickets for the weeknd.

My brothers Christmas present from me is a couple of days in Italy together, so I guess that's for me too 😁

My grown up girls have made me a stocking for the last few years which is so lovely and dh will buy me a present too but other than that I don’t receive presents from others.

So I tend to just treat myself when I’m buying presents for everyone else 😂

Ive just bought myself a pair of cuddlr trousers which look like they might be great for after cold water swimming. I took dd shopping today and she chose herself a jacket for Christmas and I found one I like for myself too so got it. And also saw there was a Levi’s Black Friday deal going and ordered myself a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt.
These will all be used before Christmas because I’m impatient but I’m excited about all of them!

I bought myself a gold honeybee pendant and necklace from Lucy Stopes Roe

Over £700 for the pendant alone?? (No wonder it’s in a pretty box!)

This doesn't count, really, but I look forward to my favourite shops doing sales from boxing day, and I usually find something I like then.

Of course it counts. You're freeing yourself from the waste of time and money that is exchanging gifts with other adults and allowing you to buy yourself something nice in a way that suits you and you'll get more for your money in the sales (or on Black Friday like another poster said).

Plus if you have a partner and DC, you could make part of your present the time to shop in the sales and get a nice lunch while he stays at home with DC.

Buying yourself something is a far better idea than going through the charade of 'buying each other gifts' where you either end up with something you don't like or you exchange links, which is just dressing up buying your own stuff as 'Christmas' so just unnecessarily complicating the whole endeavour for show.

But for the OP, if you don't want anything, why bother? Just wait until you do and buy it then.

I find this 'I need to buy myself something but I don't want anything a bit weird. Surely that's the wrong way around? You want something, you buy it, not I need to think of something to buy myself on a particular occasion that the ships have told me to do it.

I’d love a really simple string of pearls. Will see what the coffers are like once the DC are sorted!

Ok I sound 100 when I say this but I’m buying myself a microwaveable wheat bag as I’ve become too nervous to use hot water bottles (friend ended up in A&E) and I get cold ankles that take a long time to warm up in bed.

Make a plan for next year and buy something that will help you achieve it - new walking boots or socks (I love Bridgdale) for doing one of the big paths, or new running kit, or language lessons if you’re going abroad on holiday.

I’ve treated myself to this charm and a chunky figaro silver necklace from Louise Wade https://www.louisewade.com/products/.

I’ve spent more than I usually would on trainers, bought some On Cloudtilt.

And Im planning to take my partner to a weekend in Venice in Spring, but it’s more a treat for me.

Probably sone bath oil - maybe Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir

A fiction hardback book - I do a lot of reading on my kindle for convenience but I love a proper hardback book to read

Tickets to see a local opera next year

I've bought pre Christmas gifts for myself, a Christmas sweatshirt, a Christmas jumper from Crazy Granny, if the sweater fits buy it , and some sparkly hair clips. I seriously need a hair cut as it currently gets everywhere. I'll probably do that in the new year.

pushthebuttonnn · 23/11/2025 18:44

Pjs & some chocolates. Also a new wireless printer 😁

Nothungrycat · 26/11/2025 13:36

I started doing this a few years ago! I'm single and my argument (with myself) is that it's instead of the money I would spend on a partner's presents! I tend to buy things I want but can't always justify as they're not essential! This year I'm buying myself the John Lewis scented candle/oils Advent Calender. I'm also currently dithering over a second pair of (lighter) walking boots or a new bike helmet. And possibly a piece of tech - considering an additional portable speaker so I can listen to music in the kitchen.

An LED face mask

I am into clothes and books. Partner has bought me Mike Joyce’s book (drummer in The Smiths) - can’t wait to read that. I have bought myself (oops) a gorgeous Staud handbag (American label I haven’t bought from before, so will be assessing quality, etc), and Whistles suede skirt.
