Question about Christmas lights (pictures welcomed!)

Our house has two large trees outside the front (in our garden) we had just recently moved last Christmas but I knew as soon as I seen them they were destined to covered in lots of fairy lights in the winter months.

I have decided this weekend is the weekend as eldest daughter is coming home from uni for a festive weekend and thought it would be nice for here to arrive home to a twinkly garden.

my questions are, I’m guessing we would need to go for solar power lights, are they worth while in the winter with less daylight to charge them up. Also how many will we need to make it look effective? I’m guessing quite a few but still need to factor in the costs, leading me to next question. Has anyone found any bargainous solar powered lights that they would recommend and lastly has anyone done the above and have any pictures, or just any outside lights.

As you can imagine DH is thrilled with the upcoming task!! 😅

Sounds nice. B&Q are probably quite reasonably priced if they have what you want.

I have never had much luck with solar lights so I would get plug in if you have a window nearby the lead could go into.

Get more then you first think!

Christmas tree world are great for good cheap lights. I would get mains powered and like sunshine says, get more than you think.

Oh, and please get warm white or multicoloured and not blue or bright white 😉

You can get battery operated lights for outside on Amazon

Go mains power if you can. Battery powered are always a bit dim and solar powered are dim and rarely last more than a year or two.

Mains operated lights will look great if you’re able to trail the lead into a window. Twinkling warm white would be fabulous x

I got a small solar set for an outdoor tree and they don’t get much charge this time of year so i’d go mains power if you can.

Another vote for mains, if you have UPVC windows you can trail the wire out the window and still close and lock the window without damaging the cable.

Also say please don't do blue only lights, it's reminicent of emergency services (especially if they flash or twinkle) not festivities. Make sure they are outside lights with a high IP rating or they won't last very long. Premier, Lumineo and Noma are well known brands available in many outlets and online. You could use string lights to wind around trunks, maybe get net lights to hang on the sides of hedges or fences.

What sort of trees are they? Conifers are ideal for this, thorny ones less so
