He’s into sports, he runs (now and again!), he’s 44… Any ideas? Either for one gift or a couple of cheaper ones. This is max budget.

Running socks, rehydration tablets for post run, running vest, ticket to the Birmingham running show which is end Jan if you are close enough for a day out.

1234ANN · 17/11/2025 07:29

Bath salts, running top, socks, wireless earphones b and m , chocolate

Silverbirchleaf · 17/11/2025 07:30

Running head torch or cross body torch.

running gloves

hi viz running top

Sometimes meet up with a friend or share a similar birthday who doesn’t live locally. If doing something bigger than a meal, such as theatre tickets, we set ourselves a £5 limit!

NChannnnge · 17/11/2025 07:30

Has he read Born to Run? An incredible book, so absorbing even if a non runner! Or 3-6 months subscription to a sports magazine?

if he doesn’t have any of the following:
wireless earphones
foam roller
decent sports water bottle (or insulated metal one like bottlebottle for around the house)
fitbit

Rogue suggestion - entry into a race a few months from December with the promise of support and a meal out after?

Whyherewego · 17/11/2025 07:32

Running gloves are a good shout. As running in normal gloves is too sweaty. Technical socks also or a water bladder also good ideas.

BluntPlumHam · 17/11/2025 11:06

Op if you have a mcarthy glenn near you like an outlet I’d go check for some nice running shoes x

I bought my husband a fountain pen a couple of years ago. Didn't expect him to like hit, but he loves it and uses it all the time and says that it has improved his hand writing.

It was a Lamy Safari, not expensive, but really good quality for the money.

I bought a Lamy pen for my dad one year, and he too loves it and uses it all the time.

Imo a really great gift and doesn't break the bank.

Stunned by that first posters comment. Wtf.
Sorry I know you didn't mention but if he likes coffee, I just ordered my husband some coffee creamers and syrups from the American candy store. We've had them before and he enjoyed them. Could make a small hamper with maybe some sunglasses for his running (the winter sun is blazing)!

I got a runner for my Secret Santa last year and got some of this Fit Kit Bodycare | Workout Recovery Toiletry & Bodycare Products on a recommendation for from my sister (who also runs). He seemed to like them. Seem expensive for what they are but I was able to find a discount code online.

Hi, OP! I also run and for my birthday a friend gave me this book which is a great read for runners, so i highly recommend:

What I Talk about When I Talk about Running: A Memoir. By Haruki Murakami

YourGoldSheep · 17/11/2025 16:14

What about go karting together

isthesolution · 17/11/2025 16:20

I’ve gone for lots of ‘bits’ - fave sweets, fave beers, books from eBay, sports socks.

holdyerhorses · 17/11/2025 18:39

Some good suggestions from thoughtful OHs here. Particularly high quality running socks and luxury choc, for my money.

A PP mentioned quiz books. The Chicken Or Egg quiz book was recommended by someone on MN last Christmas and subsequently went down well with two males in my family - including a know-it-all brother-in-law. I got them from Amazon.

toadstool32 · 17/11/2025 18:47

Thanks everyone. I actually think I’ll swerve the running theme because it’s more adhoc these days - I appreciate the ideas though!

he doesn’t drink hot drinks (I know wtf!) but has a very sweet tooth so ideas for sweet treats are great.

Im thinking slippers… is that naff?

Could you get him a nice advent calendar with part of the money?

HushTheNoise · 17/11/2025 19:05

Some really good running socks or a hard back book ( always feels more luxury) and some luxury chocolate. I think luxury version of ordinary is nice as you wouldn't tend to buy yourself. Eg I'm asking for luxury bubble bath ( I'm meaning max £10 type compared to my usual supermarket own, not ridiculous £50 designer stuff!)

HushTheNoise · 17/11/2025 19:08

Also presents that have gone down well are personalised Swiss army knife and nice pen.
