Well, nearly 6.

Thinking of getting this label maker for my nephew.... Would it be too "weird" .. or maybe the best present ever??

Or do you know a better thing than this?

Best present ever- just warn the parents to expects labels everywhere! Also, highly advise getting extra label reels as he’ll quickly run out of the ones that come with the labelling thingymajig.

They are not as easy to use as you think - because it is an "embosser" you have to press down very hard.
It goes a little like this:
Space bar turn the dial letter click turn the dial next letter click etc etc then space bar then scissors
Label comes out (if you are lucky and it does not get stuck) before you peel the backing off.
Tricky to remove once stuck somewhere so watch your walls and furnishings.
Not the best quality outcome either.
Not sure a 6 year old has the patience tbf

My granddaughter would absolutely love one if those, she’s 7 . Thanks for the idea 😃

I have this one - DD age 6 LOVES it and would cover everything in labels if she could. You do have to squeeze quite hard but I still vote best present ever.

slipperypenguin · 14/11/2025 22:19

Yeh I’d try and find an easier one (maybe a digital one?)

TiredofLDN · 14/11/2025 22:36

DS8 dad got him one this year. He absolutely loves it. And as a dyslexic child it’s actually been a really fun way to tackle spellings

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 14/11/2025 22:39

I have one of these and ALL the children I teach are obsessed with it - I think the simplicity of it is novel to them and a label with their name is the BEST reward I can give!

He's quite a serious and studious little boy,

  • will play with Lego for hours, loves science kits etc.. maybe the strength would be an issue.

Great idea.

however the one you have posted is a bit fiddly and crap.

I would recommend the brother printer.

The adhesive is quite sticky. It survived the dishwasher when my nephew made a label for his water bottle. I would pre-warn mum!

RessicaJabbit · 15/11/2025 07:29

Fair warning about the stickiness!

Might look at the office supplies catalogue at work too!

That’s on my list for my 10 year old. I think she’ll really love it. I also have Glu Dots on the list for her every year.

IHeartFridays · 15/11/2025 09:48

We got one a few years ago! Best present ever - for a while I had the refills on my subscribe and save.
