Any recommendations? Last year we got some from Amazon. Had them fitted outside the house only for half of them to stop working a week later and we had to switch them off because it looked weird

otherwise i have to run the plug through the garage window

No suggestions apart from not blue. Especially not flashing blue ones, which are really disconcerting in the dark.

We've got a mix from B and Q, Lidl and Charlies. Did you not just put a new set up to replace them? Amazon are hit and miss- some are brilliant and some as you've found out are the cheap (maybe not in price) and not very cheerful. At least Amazon will refund.

We've bought several sets of outdoor lights from lights4fun over the past few years. I wait until they're on offer (often do an advent calendar type daily offer in December). On the one occasion we had an issue, they were very quick to sort it out.
I've got my eye on some lights from SimplyLED at the moment, but again waiting for offers.

@Pyjamatimenow If you're buying fairy lights for outdoors, look at the weather resistance rating (technically dust- and water-resistance). A higher rating like IP65 are much better and will last longer but are more expensive. It's possible the ones you bought last year failed when water got in the lights.

Premier are a reasonably good make, we have loads of their lights and they seem reliable?

Aldi outdoor lights are great!

We’d had a professional come to fit them around the roof and didn’t want to pay again to get him back out to put more up

Yes that was the other thing. The wires went all brown and looked terrible so yes possibly water was the issue.
