Crochet kit for kids?

DD12 asked for a crochet kit for Christmas. Can anyone recommend a kit she would be able to do on her own as a complete beginner? There are many kits on Amazon which claim to be for complete beginners but the reviews tell a different story.

I forgot to say, I can't knit or crochet myself so wouldn't really be able to help her much.

Toft makes lots of v nice kits - look at their website

Avid crocheter here! Honestly, the best ‘kit’ would be some nice Clover hooks in maybe sizes 4.0 to 6.0 and some bright colours of Stylecraft Special DK wool - then point her to the million or so YouTube tutorials on the basics of crochet.

Once she’s learned the basics, and understands what stitches are what, you could progress onto kits - or even more fun, pattern books!

But truly, YouTube is the best free resource out there - especially if she’s a visual learner like me.

It’s a great hobby, and once you’ve got the basics down, you can really play with what you make. I wish her the best!!

I agree with MissKitty, even now I pore through YouTube for patterns to follow!
I would get her some lovely yarn with enough to make a scarf or hat, some hooks (I find the silicone handled ones more comfortable), some fun stitch markers and maybe a nice bag to put keep it all together.

It's far easier to learn the craft with someone showing you, that you can pause, rewind and rewatch than reading for example "SC in BL only from third ST from hook....." when you haven't a clue what any of that means.

Thank you very much for the advice. I think you are totally right that she would be better off starting simple following youtube videos. Also, knowing her, if i get a kit and it's a bit difficult she won't have the patience. I will look up the yarn you mention.
I checked the Toft kits and they look good but again the reviews are saying they are too hard for beginner.
