A Ralph Lauren Christmas

This is all over social media. "Influencers" are banging on about it. Some saying if you can't afford Lauren you shouldn't do it. Others say that you must only use one tartan in each room, others say you must mix tartans.

Is anyone going to do this? or are you sticking to the decorations you already have?

They’re just shallow, superficial people shilling way on social media. Just ignore and do whatever you want!

shellyleppard · 10/11/2025 08:23

I'm just using the same decorations I've had for donkeys years. I don't keep up with the "trends" and have no intention of either!

GettingFestiveNow · 10/11/2025 08:23

I had to Google it.

I try to stick to buying one new decoration each year - we already have plenty and I like the tradition of getting out the same stuff. I don't really see what's so Ralph Lauren about it - looks quite Home Alone (not a bad thing) to me.

Saying that I have gone a bit mad with Christmas lego sets.... the window will be a diorama this year Lol

Pollyanna87 · 10/11/2025 08:25

I think it’s just a handy nickname for a traditional, Home Alone aesthetic Christmas look. I agree with the people who say that if you have a grey house, you can’t do Ralph Lauren Christmas: you made your bed, you have to lie in it!

Dragonscaledaisy · 10/11/2025 08:34

My decor is always traditional nostalgia themed because it suits my house so I'll be on trend this year. 😁

I couldn’t be less interested in all this if I tried. This is the downsides to social media - well one of hundreds but it creates and encourages everyone to turn into sheep , for fear of missing out …

Oh well il be missing out on this (and most) crazes this Christmas .

I DGAF what ‘trends’ are on social media. I know what I like and it’s tasteful, none designer, natural textiles real, hand picked foliage, warm fairy lights, and minimal. Always.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

MoominMai · 10/11/2025 08:56

It’s just an Americana inspired look harking back to their more traditional past with darker colours of burgundy, green, fancily laid out tableware, brass candles and dark wood and of course lots of velvet and tartan. I understand it for Americans as for some of them it reminds them of their past but for me in the UK - nah! I just do what I like - and sometimes that it involves not even having a tree as I live alone 🙃

Looks like you're bang on trend this year, then.

Oh, hang on, at least one of your natural textiles is a green or red tartan, right?

No, I put up decorations with sentimental value - decorations given to me over many years, or made by children (some now grown), or even made by me. Christmas for me is about family and memories. I have a lovely chest filled with lights and baubles and sparkly things, and then we bring in holly and ivy and a pine tree. I wouldn't decorate my house based on the opinions of strangers on the internet. They don't know the special importance of my glass robots or my crayon scribbled paper chains.

I bloody love Christmas!

MadeOneMistakeGotBurnedAtTheStake · 10/11/2025 15:07

I’ve never heard of it but I’ve just bought some RL tea towels in TKMaxx, does that count?

danglethedingle · 10/11/2025 18:52

Not getting involved in Christmas trends, I decided about 150 years ago I wanted red and white decorations with natural foliage and white lights, a minimalist Scandi inspired look if I remember correctly.

I think it was featured in an article in Good Housekeeping. Anyway, its been added to over the years, with things made by kids, and now grand kids, and its become a unique record of my family's Christmases.

The old wooden red and white bits are still going strong, although I have replaced the original lights with similar.

lifeonmars100 · 10/11/2025 19:05

I get one or two new decorations a year and some new lights I am very keen on the battery operated one with a timer, fill up glass bowls and vases with lights, put up my manky liitle old tree and job done. I sometimes watch influencers for a laugh and cringe along to all the "you guys", they are going full throttle now we are into November, trees up, Christmas pjs on, and endless videos of massive hauls of tat.
