Hi, we’re hosting a Christmas party for friends, does this sound enough food?
14 adults
10 kids, most age 9, couple age 12.

Veggie spring rolls x36
Samosas - maybe 20
Pigs in blankets x36
Roast potatoes - homemade so can make lots.
Mini sausage/cheese and onion rolls c30 of each
Mini scotch eggs x3 packets
Cheesy flatbread and plain garlic bread x3 each
Veg sticks and dips
Crisps x 3 flavours
Cheese and biscuits

For pudding tubs of cake/mini rolls etc from m&s.

Trying to keep it all finger food so no cutlery needed.

I wouldn’t have thought so. It’s one or two of each thing each.

1.5 pigs in blankets each is seriously miserable!

AbzMoz · 08/11/2025 22:34

Doesn’t seem like it …
It’s about one per person of each party bite … I’d possibly have less variety. If this is for grazing (not dinner!!) I’d assume 10-12 of the party bites per adult, and maybe 8-10 per child. And at least 3 PiBs per person!

SentfromSamsung · 08/11/2025 22:35

I'd add in a big slow cook pot of chilli or a lasagne

Or, cook up a gammon ham and slice that up
Add in a cooked salmon and some salads/pasta etc

EchoedSilence · 08/11/2025 22:38

I'd ditch the roast potatoes and add some quiches, bread rolls and double up on all the other food.

FastTurtle · 08/11/2025 22:39

I think you need a big item such as a gammon and baguettes or a quiche/pizzas.

Scottishskifun · 08/11/2025 22:42

Nope wouldn't even say half enough based on 24!
Definitely up some of the options (you can get bake at home mini sausage rolls) double the number of garlic flatbreads etc.

Maybe pizzas cut into smaller slices especially for the kids?

Edited

Nowhere near enough!!!!!

id go with this suggestion and scrap party food and Do things like pulled pork, chilli, curry in big slow cookers with sides and salads and breads and grazing platters for interest

you would need about 4 x that amount and it’s all beige stuff too.

NDanyone · 08/11/2025 22:47

Double all the portions and add quiche and pizzas.

Hayley1256 · 08/11/2025 22:47

I'd get rid of the roast potatoes, samosas & veg rolls. Do Hot dogs, potato salad, sandwiches & quiches instead. Double the amount of pigs in blankets

Shoes232 · 08/11/2025 22:48

Nowhere near enough. Roast potatoes is a strange thing to serve as party food. Get rid of those and add some more picky bits in

LifeSucksBigFatBalls · 08/11/2025 22:52

Double it all and add some more finger food
Nowhere near enough

Roast potatoes are abit odd

JDM625 · 08/11/2025 22:53

What time of day is the meal? If its during a normal meal time (lunch/dinner), then I'd have more few more filling, healthier things.
If is in between say lunch and dinner and more finger food snacks- then fine.

How are guests eating the food? Standing up, sit down meal with cutlery or in between? Its all very carb heavy and snacky bits. Is that the type of party get together?

WWomble · 08/11/2025 22:54

No, nowhere near enough. People will eat multiple pigs in blankets. Why roast potatoes? I think you need at least 2 of each per head, but many more pigs in blankets! I’d add some slices of pizza, chicken goujon and some plain cocktail sausages too.

Feralpupwouldnotchangehimfortheworld · 08/11/2025 22:56

Agree with pp, this not enough it is supposed to be a meal and people are expecting to be fed. It’s light snacks.
I’d do a gammon joint and a beef joint or turkey crown and carve it up, some decent bread rolls, quiches etc to make it more substantial.
personally I’d also do a chilli and rice in addition to a buffet of snacks like you’ve listed.

if you say to people that you’re just doing snacks so to eat before the come then your list is fine.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 08/11/2025 22:57

Thanks all for the replies, happy to buy more hence why i asked as not hosted this many before, it is for grazing, will increase amounts and add some bread and ham.
Not doing a lasagna etc as people will be standing around eating and chatting.
There will be a large platter of raw carrots/cucumber/celery/tomatoes so I’m not bothered the rest is ‘beige’ food, just want everyone to have something to eat. 🙂

As it sounds beige and unappetising, yes iy is probably enough. Tubs of cake and mini rolls for pudding as well.

What are you actually making?

Peclet · 08/11/2025 22:58

Very beige.

depends if it’s a drinks party with nibbles or will people be expecting more?

id do-

lump of cheddar, Stilton and wedge of Brie. Lots of crackers, chutney, pickles and some baguette. A massive cooked ham sliced ready to go. Same for a turkey crown.

also lots of cocktail sausages in mustard and marmalade roasted up and all sticky with cocktail sticks.

a crudite platter- with a couple of homemade dips. Perhaps a spinach and artichoke one or even a zzzuggghhed up hummus.

a big tower of mince pies with bandy butter.

Much more cohesive and I’d say purse friendly. Probably less than £100 all in.

Prelim · 08/11/2025 22:59

It sounds like a very random assortment of food! Could you not fire up the bbq and do hot dogs instead?

RuthW · 08/11/2025 23:04

I would at least double what you have said

Empress13 · 08/11/2025 23:06

Nope it’s literally one of each thing! I would serve a large dish of something eg chilli, lasagne perhaps with crusty bread

Calliopespa · 08/11/2025 23:14

No it's not enough op.

I agree with you about having finger food rather than chilli and baked potatoes and things, which is moving it away from something you can sensibly eat while standing and circulating. I don't honestly think the beige-ness matters overly for nibbles rather than a plate of food. There is a variety of tastes and it's a party not a school dinner: you don't need to provide their core nutrition for the day.

But roast potatoes?? How does one go about that as finger food?! Ever heard the expression "dropped it like a hot potato?" I think that's an odd party food item - and that's coming from someone for whom roast potatoes are probably the highlight of my Christmas dinner.

The crudites and mince pie tower are good ideas, but I think ham is too big and flappy to eat standing.

Also if you make it look "meal-like" they will eat a meal's worth. Lasagna for that many people is a LOT of lasagna: it's not just one or two oven dishes.

FastTurtle · 08/11/2025 23:21

I really dislike food at parties when there is a pot of chilli/curry.
