Kitchen and homeware gift ideas

I'm looking for all sorts of kitchen and homeware gifts. Not appliances.

My young adult son has just moved into his own place and I'd like to get him some bits. From stocking fillers upto £40/50 because I have no idea what to get him. We do a big stocking and then the need/want/wear/read combo.

I have bought him cooking for geeks (read) and I'm considering the loungewear oodie (trousers and top) for wear. Want/need is where I am a bit stumped.

As a moving in gift I got him a goose neck kettle. He loves coffee and cooking. Mushrooms. 70s vibes. If that helps at all?

A nice Le Creuset pot/ lasagna type dish?

BlackGrape · 08/11/2025 22:10

slightly above your price range but for a coffee lover this is Bialetti stove top Moka is beautiful Alessi Moka

BasiliskStare · 08/11/2025 22:21

frying pan / pan big enough for pasta
collander / sieve
Cafetiere
Wooden spoons / little whisks / etc for stocking fillers
measuring jug
Packs of really nice ground coffee / beans - whichever he uses.
Oven gloves
tea towel

If he doesn't have much - my thinking is that my young adult son moved out recently & I just thought of those things you take for granted but would be annoying if you didn't have them .

Not sure if that helps but good luck. 💐

Some fab ideas, thank you.

Love the mokka pot. He has an induction hob so I'm not sure it'd work. But I might have a look for one that will.

And yes, @BasiliskStare things like little whisks are a great idea for the stocking!

if they eat a lot of rice I’d definitely get a microwave rice cooker or the small electric one from Lakeland.

These are just the ticket! Amazing. Perfect for his stocking! Thank you.

Home Bargains do a set of small coloured chopping boards in a stand for <£10. Used all the time here.

Could be a great idea for the 'need' category! Thanks!

My ds is really into cooking and we often talk about when he moves out what he wants to get done/ take.
one thing ive always said id do is go mad in the spice and herb aisle. Its expensive to buy them all at once when you move in, you only use a little bit at a time so replacement is manageable.
Not sure if that’s christmasy enough though!!

Fayaway · 09/11/2025 10:38

I got my son an Aeropress as he likes coffee but girlfriend doesn’t. He loves it. It does need disposable filters but you get a decent amount in the pack to start off.
If your son likes 70s/retro have you looked at Habitat (through Argos)? Love their ranges.

He made sure he had a decent supply of spices... but I know there are a few he's missing. So this is a great idea!

Fenugreek on the list.

I'll check out habitat for sure.

Hes a pour over coffee fanatic (hence the goose neck kettle!) But the aeropress is a good idea for the office, actually.

Sounds like he knows what he’s doing if he’s got that mostly covered!

habitat is a really good shout. I’ve got a few 60’s kitchen bits from Etsy, local auction houses Auctions before.
I broke dds favourite melitta mug I’m struggling to replace now

Kitchenaid scissors are fab! I buy them for everyone haha

mumonthehill · 09/11/2025 11:25

Was also going to say Kitchen aid scissors!! Often on offer on Amazon. I noticed yesterday TK Maxx had kitchen aid utensils on line as well as a meat tenderiser which I might get for ds.

ThroughTheRedDoor · 09/11/2025 11:39

RE mushrooms: everything about them! Eating them, mushroom themed decor and yep, magic mushrooms too. And mushroom coffee. Growing them. Ypu name it. His favourite t shirt has mushrooms on it.

I love the apron. That's on the list.

And scissors is another excellent shout!

Got a decent list on the go so thank you all!

I would definitely add the Joseph &Joseph rice cooker (microwave one ) we use ours loads as it is fool proof

Those Lakeland spoons are brilliant in Fallings post

I like the Lakeland brand knives (but as I'm a superstitious I won;t buy them as a present , I'd buy them for myself )

SuckerForBread · 09/11/2025 14:16

Habitat do an excellent cast iron casserole pot, (Like le Creuset, but £30-£40) mine is flame orange but many other colours. Great for hob to oven cooking. Looks amazing. Wears well.

Staub ceramic dishes, also fantastic, similar quality to le Creuset but I think better sizes compared to my le Creuset ones.

If he enjoys pizza, then I’d get a round pizza cutter with rotating blade. They are a joy. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2912024

if he enjoys coffee, an insulated double walled cafetière coffee pot is brilliant. Keeps it hot much longer. Pair it with some lovely coffee, I particularly like Redemption Roasters. https://redemptionroasters.com

I have a KitchenAid which is honestly my greatest kitchen gift as I can bake bread so well with it.

One of the things I do like to receive though is speciality ingredients, Cotswold Flour in particular for bread making, things that you get a bit 😮 about paying for like really good chocolate, dried fruit, pistachio nut creams etc. Someone could make a friend for life out of me with a Paxton and Whitfield or John Davidson’s Butchers voucher to be honest.

If his coffee machine doesn’t have a milk attachment you could get a milk frother. I got this one recently, we used to heat our milk up on the hob or microwave, but this gadget makes the milk super smooth. My DH said earlier he can’t believe the difference it makes
