Secret Santa £50 - suggestions!

LuckyNumberFive · 08/11/2025 20:29

We do an adult family secret Santa every year, the aim is £50 (roughly, nobody minds a bit more/less). I've got my mum and I'm stuck!

My mum's a "bits and bobs" kind of woman, she'd rather 5 things for a tenner each than one £50 present. I think she loves having various little bits to open on Christmas morning. She's single and we're a fairly small family with only 6 adults so none of us gets loads of gifts, but I hate the thought of mum only getting one present so hoping for some cute, small ideas.

So far I've got her a big bottle of gin for £10 so I've got around £40 left to spend. She's not "into" anything in particular, wears lipstick but no other make up, has certain pieces of jewellery she never takes off so no point buying earrings and whatnot.

I'm thinking I'll spend another £10 on various bits of chocolate, maybe a toblerone but I'm stuck for the other stuff.

Primark has dressing gowns in, maybe a new dressing gown and a pair of soft, winter pjs? Just want to treat her to some little bits. Suggestions welcome please. If I have to order anything online I'm not counting postage as part of the budget, happy to pay that on top.

Does she wear wellies? Sheepskin insoles and a pair of wellies socks would be appreciated by my mum.

Ooooh £10 things for your mum – this is my area for sure!
Some things that I would like (you don't say how old but I am going to guess in her 50s/60s?)

Costa voucher (or Starbucks/Caffe Nero)
Yy fluffy Primark pjs
Really nice bath stuff (I love Weleda lavender bath milk which is about £12)
New case for her phone/iPad
Bottle of fave booze (Prosecco here – I am such a cliche)
Swimming hat and goggles (OK I am a swimmer but does she have a similar hobby? I always need hats and goggles as they wear out)
Nice calendar related to interests eg fave books (I had a great Poirot one once)
Fancy wine glasses – maybe just a pair of really nice ones like Champagne coupes or chunky tumblers
Something useful but silly like a box of her fave pens or pencils, nice notebook
Fluffy gloves if she does much outside stuff
Slippers are nice
Lovely hand cream always useful and not ££

Cute lip balms

Candles? Wintery ones?

Gloves?

ChopstickNovice · 08/11/2025 20:42

Also if she's into skincare the charcoal peel off mask is about £6 a tube and so fun!

Crochetandtea · 08/11/2025 20:48

Gardening gloves ?
Gardening tools
Tea/ coffee flask
Warm throw for her sofa.
A couple of lovely mugs and her favourite tea or coffee.
Does she like crafts ? New crochet hook or knitting needles, wool winder, wool needles.
A jigsaw
A small LEGO set such as the sunflowers or daffodils to build on Xmas afternoon .
A houseplant - real or fake
A bird feeder
A book token

LuckyNumberFive · 08/11/2025 20:49

Thank you all, love the suggestions so far, please keep them coming!

Her age probably would have been helpful to be fair, she's 60 next year.

She has two small dogs, just likes small gifts/trinkets in general so she'd be chuffed with 5 things for a tenner each or 10 things for a fiver each!

A book, bubble bath, scarf/gloves, socks.

Crochetandtea · 08/11/2025 20:49

Leather gloves ? I wear the ones from m and s and have them in several colours. Not sure of price as haven’t bought any for years .

Crochetandtea · 08/11/2025 20:52

A cocktail shaker and glass ?
A candle
Bubble bath
A holder for her glasses if she wears them
A good power bank or phone charger .
A beautiful photo frame.
Socks
an umbrella

stichguru · 08/11/2025 20:53

Reusable handwarmers for dog walking
A jigsaw
fluffy socks

Roseshavethorns · 08/11/2025 21:00

I would appreciate hand cream and lip balm as I have suddenly developed dry lips and hands.
We travel a lot so I would some type of waterproof toiletry bag so if something spills or splits it doesn't go over the entire contents of my case (again)

LifeSucksBigFatBalls · 08/11/2025 21:08

Ah i would have to buy her more

Pjs
Dressing gown
Slippers
Fav chocolate
Nice gloves and scarf for dog walks
A nice personlised Keyring
A photo of the dogs in a nice frame
Nice Mug with a hot chocolate selection box

CoastalCalm · 08/11/2025 21:17

A nice fluffy blanket for her and the dogs

NConthe · 08/11/2025 22:04

I’d put it all into a hamper so that it’s one gift with lots of nice things. You’ve got gin already so work around the bottle. A few nice tonics or mixers, a gin glass, snacks to go with it, olives, a black bomber cheese and nice crackers. Scratchcards? A couple of nice baubles or a new decoration/candle?

JudgeBread · 08/11/2025 22:15

Can you make her a mini stocking or hamper with lots of little things? Some nice lip balms, some good dog walking socks, some nice smellies (I always find garden centres have a great selection!), a little wax melt burner and some melts, some nice nail polish, hand cream (again garden centres tend to have dead nice ones!), some mini gin tasters with an assortment of those little tonic cans.

evilharpy · 08/11/2025 22:21

I saw these glasses in Sainsburys earlier and thought they were lovely - nicer in real life. Not really a gin glass but maybe if she likes a gin cocktail?

Thatsnotmychristmastree · 08/11/2025 23:15

Have a look at the stocking filler threads maybe?

I would do a £5 coffee shop voucher
Some chocolate or even a little gift bag filled with different food items she might like from Aldi or somewhere cheaper, like a jam, a chutney, chocolates etc.
A small hand cream or shower gel or bubble bath/bath bomb
Find a cheap frame in a charity shop and put a nice picture in it
Key ring
lip balm
Does she like tea or coffee can you get a mug or nicer tea bags or a latte pen or something to go with that
Socks
a silk eye mask or pillow case or bonnet
a candle from tk maxx or Aldi and if she likes candles a little maintenance kit (cheap on Amazon) and a candle lamp
some pjs or slippers or something else that’s a ‘bigger’ gift.

caringcarer · 08/11/2025 23:33

Sainsbury's have some beautiful soft dressing gowns in plum or navy. A lap tray might be nice. You can get some that will put a personal cat or dog photo on them for you.

Reusable handwarmers for dog walking

You could take a photo of her dogs and get that put on to a jigsaw puzzle.

Did you know that you can get silicon stretchy lid covers that go over toiletries to stop them leaking? They work so well. You can get them.from Amazon or much cheaper on Temu if you ever shop there.

I once bought someone an experience where they went to a workshop and blew a glass bauble then took it home. It was around £30/35. Then she receives a special gift and some smaller bits. I would head to the Range for a fleecy blanket, then a book and a candle and a lush bar! Best of both worlds. 💗

captainoctopus · 09/11/2025 13:18

A JarKey - so simple but so useful.
Seeds for the garden, or an amaryllis bulb, or daffs in a pot?
DD gave DH and I new hot water bottles last year - she reckons ours are so old they might burst. At least it was a change from bedsocks!
Novelty ice cube tray. (I have a huge collection of these. 😁From experience the ones that give a simple chunky shape are best, the fussy ones melt so fast they are just blobs within a minute.)
A lottery ticket.

luckylavender · 09/11/2025 13:35

Book, scarf, gloves, soap / smellies (TK Maxx is your friend here), lovely socks, notebook, stuff from Bert’s, nice mug. I could go on.
