I'm struggling to narrow down what to get my children this year! Does anyone want to share their most played with toys from last Christmas? (Or the ones that were a flop).

Here's mine:

DS who was 2 last Christmas

Most played with:
-leapfrog tea set
-magnatiles
-doll pram and doll that can go in the bath
-wooden railway

Barely touched:
-teddies (sadly, I love a soft toy!)
-vtech toot toot car raceway- the ramp came apart too easily and frustrated him

DS who was 4 last Christmas
Most played with:
-toy characters (Toy Story, encanto, dinosaurs... they all come out together)
-pram and doll that can go in the bath
-a cheap magic wand

Barely touched:
-board games (I had high hopes for pop up pirate)

The most played with toy ever in our house is definitely their toy kitchen.

Best toy for those age groups in our house was leapfrog ice cream cart. It is still played with now 6 years later!

Ds14 - farming simulator 25 & his gaming pc. Best thing I ever brought him apparently.

ds9 - fortnite lego bus, took him ages to build but he really enjoyed it.

no flops as I stick to what they ask for. :)

The ice cream cart here too! And the pizza one is also played with every day. Also the toy kitchen and accessories. My 4 yo also adores his bluey caravan set. Play doh too.

DS is now 2.5. Toot toot drivers garage is played with every day, plus the extra track pieces.

The Melissa and Doug wooden ice cream parlour was a massive hit when my daughter was 2 and is still brought out regularly now she’s 6. Whenever there are other, even much older children in the house, they all get the ice creams out.

The other more obvious, larger gift is the Barbie dream house. I was worried about the size and cost of it but my daughter has played with it almost every day since last Christmas.

Thanks, I've been going back and forth about whether to get the ice cream cart this year. That's decided then!

DD was 1.5 last Christmas. Her favourite presents have been
First doll and pram
Scuttlebug bike
Tea party set with cups, plates & sandwiches
Vtech cars & track

DS was just 3 last year

Most played with
-Wooden train track
-Pay-doh
-Marble run
-small monster truck

Least play with:
wooden fire station

The year before that he got the Melissa & Doug Scoop And Serve Ice Cream Counter and that still gets played with.

Another vote for the ice cream cart! Toy supermarket checkout gets played with a lot. Balance beam set.
Bilibo thing gets used a lot.
Melissa and Doug steering wheel is used almost daily too.

Id love to see the doll and pram for the bath, that sounds like a good one!

My son was 4 past Christmas. Hot wheels track builder set is a big hit and wooden airport.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/11/2025 10:27

My son is 8 and got a switch last year, he hasn't used it anywhere near as much as I thought he would but getting him some new games this year which I hope will mean he gets more use out of it.

He seems to have mostly grown out of playing with toys which I am shocked about, it seem so young still.

The most successful present I've ever bought either DC was the whiteboard easel, which I got for DD from IKEA when she was 2. She's 11 now and she and DS(7) have used it almost every day! We've been through a lot of pens...

We had the ice cream cart for a few years as well, I'd say we got our money's worth. DD got it when she was 3 but still liked playing with it every now and then (mostly with DS who also loved it) until she was about 9.

Can you send me a link to the pram and doll that can go in the bath?

Needspaceforlego · 09/11/2025 01:36

Switch is played with daily, football stuff and Lego.
Stuff thats never looked at is the Ravensburg Marble run thing.

SoUncertain · 09/11/2025 01:44

A vtech kids camera was the big hit for my 5yo. She was thrilled by the idea of Lego kits but doesn't always have the patience to finish them, so we have half-built.animals dotted around the house.

Other hits were galt bubble lab and science lab, and a marble run.

Melissa and doug ice cream shop. £30 on Amazon at the mo (usually £50 ish). Brilliant! Mostly wooden and has so much play value

Sorry, I think I worded that poorly! It was just a normal wooden pram and a separate doll that they like to take in the bath (This is the one we have and it's lasted well).

Oh gosh my kids are older now but we had that ice cream thing for years and it was played with so much.

it eventually got donated away. Wonderful toy!

slipperypenguin · 09/11/2025 08:51

The ice cream truck was a big hit in here too and got played with by both DS.

glad to hear the comments on the Barbie dream house as it’s on DD list this year and we had similar reservations
