Ex DH and I separated on good terms and the first Christmas exchanged gifts in front of our 12yr old DDD.To show we were friends. He got me 2 lush bath bombs. Now I have life long Rheumatoid Arthritis and haven't been able to use a bath since I was a child. We'd been married for 14yrs. We'd lived in a place with a walk in shower due to my arthritis. I wasn't upset just baffled.

What? Darts?

The year my brother left home my presents from my parents were a hair slide with a bow and a small puzzle toy. My mum said she thought the bow could be worn as a bow tie, it certainly didn't fit my short hair.

I'd been with my mother when she bought several things for him, nice things. Did I say anything? No I was used to not featuring.

Yes! I acquired quite a collection of bath cubes, lace doilies, pincushions, coasters, needle books, notelets and the notebooks with the teeny pencils!

Oh and tons and tons of those teeny little glass and china animals that looked like they’d been a cracker prize. There used to be absolutely tons of ‘em at any church fete or bric à brac stall for 5 or 10p each (1980s prices…) I saw some on sale recently at an antiques centre for TEN POUNDS EACH — I nearly fell over in shock!

I’m a nineties child really but think this was still going on then. One neighbour of my granny used to give me nice soaps, often shaped like animals, every time we visited. To be fair, I was always really pleased with them!

My aunt gave me the same pretentious art house film on dvd 3 years in a row. I feel naming the film would be outing as there is no way anyone else has 3 copies of it!

(Also, aside from the first year, I have not lived with a dvd player)

My non English speaking very formal mil went on holiday to New York and bought me a pack of bikini knickers. All black see through but decorated. One pair had a red fringe with the words “my fringe swings” one pair had an embroidered hole at the front “whole lotta love” and the third had a glow in the dark arrow pointing down “don’t get lost” 🤣 She got a similar pack for her 14 year old daughter.
When we asked about them she said she thought they were pretty so she bought them for all her friends too! This was back in the 80s and she died last year but I remember fondly how for a while my fringe swung 😂

I knew I'd seen it before, that hideous crab/sea urchin thing is MURANO glass! A Google lens search shows it retails at around £40! Unbelievable. You could sell it but it's worth keeping for kitch value and lols.

I keep it purely for comedic value. As a family we've laughed more about that damned crab than anything. I collect vintage Cornishware and love gardening so am really easy to buy for.
I think it must be around ten years old now. I've told DIL one day she'll find it lurking under her Christmas tree.

I’m 54. In the 70s and 80s when I was a kid, remember how older women (maybe my age now!) woukd give you strange practical womanly things? Folded rain bonnets (head scarves) in a tiny plastic case that looked like a handbag. Small notebooks with tiny slim pencils attached. Kitchen gadgets like the wire thing you slice a hard boiled egg in. Notelets. A crust set. Lily of the valley bath cubes. Knitting needles. Pin cushions. A set of floral coasters. It was kind of adorable to be thought of by these kind old ladies but I was sometimes a bit puzzled. Was I, a nine year old, supposed to proudly use the coasters? Was I supposed to put them carefully away until I got married? Does anyone else remember this sort of thing

Yes but I suspect in my case it was a load of things they’d won at the bingo!

My dh once gifted me a "fitness" pole. With a cheerleading outfit to wear alongside it. Oh and pom poms. Getting quite angry thinking about that christmas.
