Cheaper stocking fillers for adults?

Anyone finding things are just REALLY pricey this year? I do stockings for our 4 children in their twenties. It’s my favourite bit of Xmas, I love it. But I’ve bought virtually nothing this year. For a start, I normally get bargains over the year but hardly saw any. But emails coming through with stocking filler ideas all seem to have items of £10 plus!

Ah thanks! I’m on that thread but still finding the options expensive!

The principle of that thread was meant to be cheaper stocking fillers but people don’t always read the OP!

Are they all still living at home or do they have their own places?

OMGitsnotgood · 23/10/2025 23:22

Also… what is your budget for each stocking and how many gifts do you want to put in there?

You can buy a pack of nice hand cream/lip balms and split it, that's often cheaper than buying individual ones. You can get a four pack for £10, so £2.50 each.

Food is always a good option. It takes up a lot of space and is reasonably priced/deals available. Things like Chocolate Orange or Toblerone.

You can get some really good condition second hand books for a couple of pounds each and again they're bulky. If they comment on it being second hand tell them you're trying to be environmentally conscious/more ethical this year.

If you go somewhere like Primark you can get cosy socks/Christmas socks for a good price. You can also get Christmas novelties (although I would avoid as part of the drive to be more environmentally conscious).

The Works is good for some nice notepads or other stationary items at a good price. Also things like crossword books, craft supplies.

IKEA is good for candles, photo frames and other bits. Also good for things that are actually useful if you're into that kind of stocking filler.

You could put something homemade in if you're that way inclined.

I've found the same and I have 7 stockings to do so I've decided to make them edible and drinkable stockings this year.
So far I'm buying
Chocolate coins
A small orange
A tube of sweets
Some retro sweets
An alcoholic drink
Pringles
A jar of something
A savoury snack
Some drink satchets(nice teas,hot chocolates)
I just need to think of a few more.

Nice ingredients, @ChewbaccasMrs

3 meter charging cables, I buy a pack of 3 android & 3 iPhone ones from Amazon & split them out, works out around £3 a stocking

Last year Black Friday I bought portable power banks for the older teens phones, £8 each

for my sister this year I’ve done a ‘12 days of Christmas’ instead of a stocking so some stuff was more pricey, but in stockings for the grown ups for the women of the family, under £10 I’ve been able to get

Lip balm

a coin purse in the accessorize sale rail, and earrings too (just little silver ones but very sweet)

pretty tree decorations

book marks printed with photos of their kids / dogs

books

notebooks, pens, etc

cocktails in cans and miniatures with small cans of mixer

light up glasses to drink the festive cocktail, bought in a set of 4 & split out, added foil cocktail umbrellas & festive swizzle sticks

makeup minis, eg benefit on 3 for 2 or Mac mini lipsticks (on sale)

pretty or scented pocket tissues, m&s used to do good rose scented ones but I’ve had to go for Emma bridgewater floral this year

handbag size umbrellas

bought a pack of sweet cones & filled them with luxury bath salts dressed up with a ribbon

and then used the sweet cones again for luxury hot chocolate in the kids stockings

Face sheet masks, champneys do a 4 pack for £10 & I split those out across 4 stockings

luxury soaps

wax melts from a little local business

jewellery cleaning cloths

nice hand sanitisers / hand cream / cuticle oil

eye makeup remover / mini micellar water

tweezerman tweezer minis (we are all sprouting in our middle age)

my husband has more practical things in his, socks, stationery for work, refill for a posh pen he loves, hair wax, mini deodorant sprays from the travel section for the gym, body puff because he makes them disgusting in no time, soap he really likes, Lego mini figure, phone screen protectors, chocolates, luxury popcorn, craft ale, some kind of photo gift of his kids, stuff related to the football team he supports, a voucher (more expensive though) new hi vis vest to wear on his bike on dark mornings, car air freshener. Cheap spare earbuds because he can’t keep track of his apple ones. Spare laces for running trainers

fourelementary · 24/10/2025 09:44

Lego F1 racing cars are £3.50 from Lego or B and M had them too.
I also tend to do either a smellies or sweeties stocking so it is all used up rather than tat.

Smellies would have shower gel, tweezers, nail files, aftershave etc to suit budget but could have things like shower puffs, cloths etc to bulk out cheaply.

Sweet might not necessarily be all sweet but would be edible but could include chopsticks or napkins or food wraps/reusable food bag or drinks bottle etc.

HeatingFiddler · 24/10/2025 10:35

Wax melts (you can get the burners for about £5 on amazon) & soaps are always a good shout - if you go to Etsy you can get enough wax melts for a months worth of constant burning for about £7, and ditto really nice soap for similar.

Etsy is great right now as there are so many good deals on. Could also do socks, gloves, new mugs etc.

CharlotteCChapel · 24/10/2025 10:43

Trolley/locker token

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/10/2025 11:30

Packs of dried mango always go down well here. If they’ll fit in a stocking, the smaller Grape Tree ones are good.

ByTwinklyDreamer · 24/10/2025 13:24

Gloves

Split toiletry gift sets

Sweets, chocolates, mini bottles of wine

Cranefly7 · 24/10/2025 14:55

I have done food/drink with a theme country. Most appreciated one was probably Korean.

Bottle of Soju (or non alcoholic drink), little soju glass, instant noodles, Korean snacks and sweets. Could even add in a Squid Game trinket, small book or something. Very cheap, easy and interesting. You can change country every year

I’ve used Starry Mart before, and we also have a local shop that sells lots of things https://www.tiantian.london

TK Maxx and Home Sense food section can be good for things (especially the clearance section):

  • herbs and spice mixes - I bought DD one that came with a wooden spatula
  • grinders with seasoning in
  • coffee syrups
  • packs of sweets, marshmallows, snacks
  • olives
