Gift Wrap Thread

Thought it would be nice to share any gift wrapping ideas in one place.

For example, one year instead of a selection box I bought favourite chocolate bars and put them in a plain jar but tied ribbons with fake holly round them.

I've loved looking at ideas on Pinterest for using plain or coloured Kraft paper and foliage and used that last couple of years.

This year I have bought lovely tree decorations for my adult family members personal to them. I'd like some ideas of how to wrap them up nicely as they're fragile.

Have a look on the Poncetastic thread, it’s full of creative people, I bet you’d get a dozen good ideas on there.

The problem with the poncetastic thread, as fab as it is, is that you have to wade through lots of other stuff to find what you’re looking for, eg wrapping ideas. I do love that thread though.

One year I tied in 3 mini baubles and bells - a bit like the photo (not my pic, that’s off the web), and I used curling ribbon and curled the end so it mixed in with the baubles. Not sure I’ve explained it very well but I thought they looked fab.
Anothet time I attached flat wooden Christmas decorations (bought cheaply from B&M) in with the ribbon. Also looked fab.
For children, I have similarly tied in Christmas wrapped chocolate lollies.
I think a well wrapped present ‘adds value’ to even the cheapest gift.

@PumpkinSpicedTeaare you on Instagram? Probably because I searched on ‘ gift wrapping with baubles’ to find the above photo, reels from ‘wrappedbycarrie’ came up on my Instagram feed. There are some very simple but effective ideas on there.

I really love a well wrapped gift! Pinterest is one of my favourite places this time of year.

For the decorations, I’d look at making individual boxes. If you have a silhouette or a cricut there are lots of templates available for a small fee for fancy little boxes, but if you’re just using a knife, you could glue wrapping paper onto a stiff paper or light card, and create a simple 6 sided box template to cut, score and fold. I find a spray adhesive best for this as you want a light, even layer. Leave it to go slightly tacky before putting the paper on.

If I need a bit of packing, I shred coloured paper that compliments the wrapping paper or ribbons. And use a scissors to curl them. My shredder is quite old and doesn’t cross cut like modern ones so I wouldn’t be investing in a shredder just for this 🤣

Another idea is to pad the gift with something useful, like soft fluffy socks or gloves, with the decoration wrapped in tissue in the centre. I often add someone’s favourite sweets instead of something like packing peanuts.

I agree the Poncetastic thread is lovely for having a look through everything and I'm sure they have brilliant wrapping ideas. Just thought a wrapping only thread might be nice. I hadn't heard of the wrapping fabric gift bags until recently for example. It doesn't have to be anything fancy.

@OMGitsnotgood I am on Instagram so will have a look at Wrapped by Carrie and also a general Google search as well :) I love your idea of adding bells, I think I might do that this year. Also agree with how the present looks. I don't usually spend much on my sisters as we focus on our kids but still like to gift something and make it look nice.

@Deliveroo brilliant ideas thank you. I am not sure about making my own boxes quite yet but will have a look! Packing ideas are great and I love the idea of using another useful gift as well.

These types of bows are really easy to make, there are plenty of YouTube videos on how to make them. You can use almost any paper from newspaper to old books or maps for example.
