Gift ideas for 89 year old aunt

I am looking for some gift ideas for my 89-year-old aunt please. She is fit and healthy, gets out and about, and has an active mind. Budget up to £30-40, she likes several small things rather than 1 main present.

She loves gardening, watching the birds, reading, baking cakes, and puzzle books (now does on her phone mostly).

In the past I’ve bought afternoon tea vouchers, garden tools and ornaments, book
vouchers, her fave smellies, puzzle
books, a nightie, an Oodie-type thing (she wanted one), book light as she reads in bed, window stick-on bird feeder, etc.

She has enough garden stuff and bird feeder cameras are a bit out of budget. She’s not interested in going to the cinema or shows, and as she relies on public transport and taxis membership for the National Trust is not feasible.

My go to gift now for my DF is a collection of jams from community markets I have been to through the year. I did it first last year and he was thrilled. He likes a jam sandwich, does my dad.

I wanted something that would be used and would be disposable, if you know what I mean. His house is already stuffed with so much.

Dad also likes a trip down memory lane so, if she has fond memories of wherever she grew up, type the village, parish and town name into Amazon and Abebooks and see what presents itself.

Cashmere wrist warmers?

RSPB jigsaw? Perhaps with a jigsaw rollaway mat? Subscription to a magazine she might like?

BeerOrStout · 21/10/2025 15:19

Would she be interested in a subscription to a gardening magazine - Gardeners' World, or similar? Or does she 'know it all' already?

Pot of bulbs that are ready to sprout?

Garden gift voucher that she can spend at a garden centre?

Gardening gloves or a kneeler?

I bought some gorgeous hand painted small pots at a market that my elderly, garden-loving, aunt loved. Also those lovely pots with pre-planted bulbs and other things.

She doesn't usually like "things" but she does like themes so I have bought her christmas themed things like little knee blankets or bowls for snacks which she quite liked.

Good hand cream or lip balm.

Potted amaryllis or hyacinths

The gift my mum reacted to the most in amongst her birthday goodies recently was a tiny jar of marmalade 😍

I prefer to give usables rather than keepables now, most folk have enough stuff.

An acorn or avocado vase! We love growing oak saplings.
