Token gift for someone who buys for your child?

Hi all, I’m looking for a token gift that is better than a box of biscuits/chocolates for someone that buys Christmas presents for your child, but they have none of their own so can’t do a straight swap! I know a lot of people only buy for children at Christmas but as they have no children I want to give them something in return.

As a non-child owing friend, I am delighted with anything espywhere DC are involved. Things I’ve received:

  • free diary decorated by child
  • mad looking broach with garish stones (still in my jewellery box).
  • anything that child is involved in giving. No booze, chocolate that they might share or know it’s special to me (but still look with big longing eyes)
  • weeds they think are flowers
  • anything DC take part in creating and giving so they understand it’s a joy to give
  • lots of love.

A poinsettia in a nice pot. They are so lovely and Christmasy.

Yes, or any nice plant

Our DC are grown and flown. Neighbours in the next road whom we got to know have a DD and I have always got her a little something for birthdays and Christmas. We didn't expect anything in return (I enjoyed buying her a gift) but we were given some nice little jars of jam, a cake, a candle and a plant at different times. Now the daughter is 8 and she makes us something, which is lovely.

A Christmas cactus. The plant is the texture of a succulent with no spikes and it bursts into colourful flowers around Christmas. They are very easy to care for.

Craggi do lovely supersoft scarves, pashminas and hats. Starting at £12.99.

+1 for poinsettia .. however I am also a non-child owning friend and in this case would say it is definitely the thought that counts so chocs etc would be totally fine. It's just lovely to be thought about!

I would do a plant type gift, or perhaps a basket/plant pot with daffodil/crocus bulbs in that the child has planted. Perhaps with a little sign or painted rock/stone to go in. I wound definitely make sure that the child gave a hand drawn/scribbled/age appropriate home made card too.

Tbh I think a generic gift like chocolates or biscuits is fine, but I'd send a personalised card either decorated by the child themselves or (if too young) with their hand prints or picture.

Thanks all! DC are only young but I think the homemade card would definitely be appreciated! I’ll see what I can get DS to participate with this year!
