I would like to get my son a farm related toy for Christmas, he has an older siblings so we already have lots of cars and dinosaurs etc so I am trying to think of something a bit different.

Which of these would you go for for a 16 month old. Is he too young for a toy farm? Would he be better with a puzzle

Thank you. I have considered something like this because I don't know how much play value the farm building itself provides. Really helpful to hear your kids enjoyed the tractor.

There is also a Noah’s Ark which was great!

Yes we had that one from 12 months and it has had a good few years of play. Only thing is it's relatively big, does not fit neatly into a kallax cube so keep that in mind!

Thank you. I really appreciate those who have responded. I think I'm going to get it!

Out of interest does any one have an actual farm building toy that kids have actually played with

my little one adores the toy in the first picture you posted… he plays with it literally every single day. he’s 20 months but got it about a few months ago so around the same age

Maybebaby6 · 07/10/2025 18:39

Is the one with the building and animal pen happy land? My mum had an older version of that I bought second hand off a friend and my nephews loved it so much she couldn’t get rid of it even when they were really way over the target age for it! They’re well made and last well, she’s passed it on again to another family.

Yes yes to this! Such a big hit in our house too.

IkeaMeatballGravy · 07/10/2025 19:35

That tractor is fabulous. Out of the barns I would say the happyland one. Happyland toys are pretty robust and clean up well so they are quite good to buy second hand.

By the way, does your little one like Tractor Ted on TV? a farmer friend reccomended it for DS and he loves it, you can get it on prime and YouTube. The latest episodes are on thier own subscription which is a pain.

No I hadn't heard of it, but will give it a try! Thanks for the great tip!

Yes it is happy land. I think both the toy farms are so sweet so maybe if the tractor is a hit we will start building our farm empire 😂

16 months is a bit little to get the concept of a toy farm. He might enjoy putting things in and taking them out but he won't really get the concept of 'playing' with it. 4/5 is really the age for imaginative small world play. The PP's link isn't working for me but the first little boy I nannied for just loved his John Deere tractor that he could push around the living room.

riverofjordan · 08/10/2025 09:08

I bought my 20 month old the Happy land barn. He's generally a pretty forward kid (according to my health visitor and friends lol!) but doesn't really understand it or play with it so I've packed it away to get out in a few months. Great toy tho as in well made etc and I reckon he will love it later on. He just seems a bit confused what he's supposed to do with it, he presses the noise buttons a few times then just wanders off to do something else!
