My DS is 8 and I am really struggling to think of what to get him for Christmas.

He has a bike, scooter, tablet, art stuff, board games already. He also has lots of Lego that he doesn’t seem to bother with now, not to mention the numerous unopened Lego he got on his birthday from friends. We got him a football goal, another 🙄 football etc for his birthday this summer so those ideas are out.

Toys just don’t get played with after 5 mins and asking him just gets me I don’t know or Robuxs.

please inspire me with your ideas.

My 7 year old is obsessed with Bunny vs Monkey books which originated in The Phoenix comic. You can get a trial subscription of 6 issues for £1 and they send 1 a week.

Sometimes experience gifts do well when they’re feeling a bit overloaded with toys:
Tickets to a football match
Stadium tour
Zoo animal feeding experience
Museum sleepover
Cinema tickets

An oodie type thing DGS has a spiderman one from Amazon.

Mine is 13 now but as a surprise for his 8th Christmas he got a hover board with go-kart adapter which he loved along with nerf guns and a target practice thingy and a pogo stick (which he and his friends are still obsessed with).

pantomime tickets? we are going after xmas, before school starts again.

A big beanbag and a fluffy blanket went down well with my DS, uses them every day to relax.

JustStopItNorasaurus · 28/09/2025 15:05

I bought mine a pogo stick at abut that age.

Considering he has dyspraxia and cannot ride a scooter or a bike I am not sure what the fuck I was thinking.

But it went down a storm apparently with the person I sold it to on fb marketplace.

We're in the same boat! I think I'm going to look at experiences we can do not too long after Christmas- he likes Harry Potter so going to look at doing the tour and tying it in to a couple of days in London.

Or WWE tickets because he's majorly got in to wrestling this year.

Then the standard, football boots, keeper gloves, kits (fakes!) new ball which he always mithers for anyway.

Console game

And after reading this thread, a pogo stick!

Oh and smellies, he loves lynx and feeling grown up by having his own toiletries and stuff so probably some new cheap aftershave too.

Maybe a mini grabber machine

DisruptiveCumin · 01/10/2025 05:46

DIY kits or science kits? Items like kinetic sand or magnetic tile usually go down well.
Football tickets or maybe even a pass?
Something in the colors of his favorite team if there is one, you can get him the official kit from the store if the team has one. Or make a photo calendar with the players and/or their autographs (here is how you can make one yourself)
Football boots or gloves would be amazing too.
Roller skates probably? My nephew is 9 and we got him the skates for his birthday (mid-June) and he still gushes over it

LastNameBeeswaxFirstNameNunnuyar · 01/10/2025 20:21

I tend to go for clothing with favourite character, sport etc on. Funny Christmas designs or something that's not the usual boring 'kit'

8 year old, no idea what to get.

My 8 year old DS wants a "smartwatch". We'll get him one that is basically a pedometer. He just wants to be able to count steps.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 04/10/2025 18:00

Do you have a bath? I’ve got my 8 year old a selection of test tubes, bath fizzers and thinks that change the colour if the water along with one of those trays that go across the bath. I’ll pop it out with some googles and are can be a water scientist.

Have you decided which one to buy yet? My son also has requested the same (time and steps) but im struggling to find something so simple! They all seem to be smart watches.

Amazon sell just pedometers, like a fit bit basically. They don't even connect to a phone x

Bjorkdidit · 07/10/2025 09:41

I don't know what Robuxs is but can you buy him that?

Would he prefer an experience gift? Season pass to whatever it is he likes to do? Local zoo or whatever? Is there a new activity/sport he'd like to try?

How does he enjoy spending his time?

At 8 he's old enough to have a conversation about how he really feels about things, such as would he be upset if there wasn't a lot of presents at Christmas but you gave him a couple of little things like sweets, card games or whatever and put some money in an account that he could spend when he did decide he wanted something. He might prefer that, but in any case, Christmas is nearly 3 months away, loads of time for him to decide, let him think about it for a while, he might come up with something. Or you could give him money and say you can go shopping in the sales after Christmas.

But there's no point spending money for the sake of it if he genuinely doesn't want anything. Put money away, let him know it's his to spend whenever he wants something, which is bound to happen sooner or later.
