His birthday is also the week before Christmas, so could do with finding something for that:

We bought him a bike this summer as we wanted to teach him to ride a bike (he now can and is very good.) He has a Tonie box for his bedroom and a mini Yoto player for out and about. He has a ride on tractor and our garden has a massive outdoor play area. And a trampoline.

I don’t know what to get him. I’ve seen a toy Land Rover with a trailer I think he’d like but any other ideas welcomed.

Board games, books, lego. Toy cars were DS's favourite

TeenToTwenties · 26/09/2025 10:15

Books, board games, construction toys, action figures, craft kits, dressing up, science exploring kits, plant growing kits, soft toys, toy cars, remote control car, fort building kit, roller blades, microphone.

my 5 year old is already making his list (thanks to his big brother and a Smyths catalogue) Santa brought him a bike last year, and a hot wheels garage the year before (in our house santa brings 1 or 2 things off your list and a stocking)

This year he would like

  • Minecraft lego set (2 particular ones)
  • Marble run
  • Imaginext batcave
  • Walkie talkies
  • Bathbombs
  • Encyclopedia
  • Jenga
He will likely get most of that from either santa/us or family.

Kids digital camera, stunt scooter, skateboard, ‘cool’ new trainers, new Yoto cards (Vinted ideal), desk and chair set, science/lab/slime making sets, top trumps cards, dressing up clothes, popcorn/candyfloss machine.

Ohthatsabitshit · 26/09/2025 10:18

Board games (operation, jenga, connect 4, mankala)
swimming goggles and floats
siren lights or revving handle for his bike
kite
rope ladder if you have a tree
flick-a-chick
bopit
slinky
a plant or mushroom kit
saw hammer screw driver and some soft wood (making a trebuchet is always popular)
paints

OP, I’d honestly advise you to dial the present-giving right down to PJs, books, Lego etc etc. He’s only five, it’s September, and you’re already feeling the pressure.

Seriously, take charge now or you’ll be buying him Tiffany cuff links and an Aston Martin when he’s 17.

A lot of the above is just wanting to be critical for the sake of it. I don’t think I know anybody who hasn’t got their child a bike by now! And trampolines are pushed on here to the point that I wonder if MN have shares in them! In any event, neither the tractor nor the trampoline were bought by us. The trampoline actually belonged to the people who lived in the house before us.

Lego is a good shout. I don’t care especially about things being ‘big’ but equally I don’t want to buy things for the sake of buying. I genuinely don’t think a nearly five year old having a bike, a screen free device to listen to when travelling and a screen free device to listen to at home and some play equipment in the garden is evident of great luxury and overwhelming presents!

I don’t think people were being critical for the sake of it, they were going off your OP with your massive outdoor play area and the big ticket items they have, because you are saying your kid has everything but haven’t listed anything small, so people are suggesting simpler things that your child may love. Your thread title said your child has ‘everything’ and now you are upset people think he has ‘overwhelming presents’. We can only go off what you say.

Have you considered adopt a zoo animal? Then he can have a zoo trip but would also get the adoption pack to unwrap.

Ophy83 · 26/09/2025 20:51

Jenga
Connect 4
Annual zoo pass
Gravitrax
Nerf guns
Dressing up clothes
Puppet theatre

Disneyland2022 · 26/09/2025 21:23

My boy is slightly younger than yours but he loves:
speed track
marble rush ( it’s a Vtech one, so it isn’t small marbles)
Mini metal detector
science kit
magna tiles
Construction magic sand

I’m thinking of buying some kind of construction Playmobil set
I’ve seen there’s a monster truck show touring so I might get tickets to that.

EatingSleeping · 27/09/2025 19:02

The remote control monster jam trucks are really good and robust - if you have a large garden they are fun to play there or in the park as they can cope with multiple terrains. They aren't hard to handle/ get going with.

Other hits I've had is the make.do construction kit mentioned up thread - especially for Christmas when you're likely to have lots of boxes/ packaging that can be used. A thermo print camera may be nice? If you can stand it a musical instrument like a guitar if he has any interest?

Walkie talkies are popular but I find it takes a while for them to get the hang of so they can be a bit frustrating to start. A den building kit or outdoor adventuring type elements (microscope, compass, magnifying glass could be fun)

If you do something like a zoo ticket a cuddly toy of an animal will feel more unwrappable?

Pinkladyapplepie · 23/11/2025 10:04

Pop up tent and sleeping bag, can play outside with in summer. Wheel barrow and spade and a Hugh pile of sand in an area of garden your not fussed about. Dart board amazing for maths(teacher here!!). Small table tennis table, basket ball hoop.
