Just did a stocktake of the cupboard where I have hidden everything. I start buying in Jan as we also have lots of winter bdays and family gifts to buy etc. Some caveats - I get silly and cheap things for stockings, three kids (dd14, ds 13 and 8), I like some but not all of the stocking gifts to be the same across their stockings, this is the level of present buying that works for my family. Not bought any sweets/chocolate yet.

Hope this helps with some ideas.

Things the same across all the stockings:

Fortune telling stress ball (like a cross between a squidge ball and a lucky 8 ball)
Cracker with a nice christmassy jigsaw inside (Wentworth)
Cracker with socks inside
A mini foldable crate thing from Flying Tiger
Cool pack of playing cards
A wax seal set with their initial

Then for dd14:
A 'spa' headband from boots
Some heartshaped tealights (sainsburys in sale last Jan)
A mini tin shaped like a suitcase with pictures of Paris (where we went in the summer) and some chocolates inside
One of those things that you use to squeeze last bit of make up from tube
Some cool paperclips
Mini tray for jewellery (Tiger)
Some japanese 'panda picks' that you put into sushi or on top of sandwiches

For both ds:
An 'infinity fidget flexagon'
Mini ping ping (B&M)
Cool pencils with maths things on like all the digits of pi

For ds 13:
cool frisbee boomerang thing (B&M)
Magnets shaped like ninjas
A mini king kong figure (B&M)

For ds8:
A cool sponge thing for the bath (he likes baths)
A bear keyring you paint yourself with marble paint (B&M)
Highlighters

Sounds like a lot but also cool stuff you have obviously put lots of thought into. They will be thrilled! Question is do you wrap or not?

Some great ideas have a 13 and 14 yr old so very helpful to list these - thank you!

Oh wow. Wish I was organised like you. My lot will be lucky if they get a nut and tangerine on a bit of string.

Timeforabitofpeace · 25/09/2025 13:00

Lovely. My now adults say the stockings were their favourite part.

Streatfeild · 25/09/2025 13:01

I would love some nice nuts and a good juicy tangerine tbh.

Typo above too - mini ping pong (not ping ping)

Yes we wrap - so it takes them longer on Christmas morning as they do their stockings together in one of their bedrooms while we wake up slowly (actually lovely to listen to)

Some great ideas here!
Can I ask where you got the maths pencils from please?

Streatfeild · 25/09/2025 13:39

These - though I am pretty sure I got them in the sale in January

Many years ago my brother was in charge of doing the family stockings. He realized after filling them on Christmas Eve that he hadn't filled them as full as he wanted them. He went out to a local petrol station and bough ham sandwiches for everyone! It has now become that family tradition to finish off the stockings with a ham sandwich. Never fails to amuse.

Streatfeild · 25/09/2025 13:55

hahahaha - love this

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/09/2025 18:35

I don't do stockings but I do Dec 1st Boxes /bags

DD has nail polishes , skin care , keyring , dressing gown and pyjamas , colouring book (local streets one )
I need to get some nice colour/art pencils
I need to choose some chocolate for both.

They get the use of these all December which they prefer . Christmas itself would be a few bigger things like clothes .(DD writes a list ) Xmas Grin

I have one , like a key but with a gap where you slot the tube end and twist it , then the key slides out . Good for DS who is a middle tube squeezer .

KeepOnKeepingOn25 · 25/09/2025 18:39

OP you are so wonderfully organised! Can you do mine?!

Seriously though I have questions…

How do you fit those things into stockings? Some sound quite big like th foldable crate, jewellery tray and frisbee

Every year I struggle to find gifts small enough to squeeze into mine (we have those traditional knitted woolly ones, with like a fair isle pattern on) they don’t stretch much but are cute and the kids like them.

Do you use bigger sacks for yours? And do you have any ideas for tiny gifts that would fit in mine? (Ages 8 & 4) thank you in advance! x

Arlanymor · 25/09/2025 18:41

Erm... where are the chocolate foil-covered coins? I thought it was the law to buy a little mesh bag of chocolate foil-covered coins? If you don't I think Santa puts you on his shit list naughty list next year?!

Londonmummy66 · 25/09/2025 18:59

@KeepOnKeepingOn25 - theres a great Christmas bargains thread that has lots of ideas for stockings. I've just bought these little fidget toys as we also have smallish stockings. https://www.flexifidgets.co.uk/collections/fidgeez

Flying tiger is good for stocking sized gifts - a thin tube of pencils with sparkly ends (and v good pencils too...), mini toys and craft items etc.

Fidgeez

Fidgeez are tiny, wiggly mini fidget collectables for sensory regulation. Quiet, pocket-sized and made for neurodivergent hands. 130+ designs. £4 each. Collect. Fidget. Love.

Londonmummy66 · 25/09/2025 19:02

Mine are 21 and 23 so a slightly different demographic but I have got

Tweezerman tweezers
Travel set of make up brushes in a metal tube
Lip balm
Fidget toys
Interest related tote bags
Makeup brush cleaning trays
Embroidered pouches
Costume jewellery
Perfume atomisers

Hitchingmyskirt · 25/09/2025 19:35

Mine are 8 and 10

I do the same as you and pick things up through the year I have

Hand warmers
rubiks cubes
mini games
clip on lens for magnifying tablet cameras
notebooks
stationary sets
pull on arm tattoo sleeves
tiddlywinks / Yahtzee
a PYO kit / digital pet
Neon sign kits
science sets
magic/card sets
Puzzle tin
joke books
wallets

plus I took a chance on the American sweets on the bargain thread the other night so if that does turn up (🤞) I’m all done.

our go in stockings, usually sat inside a gift bag. All wrapped up to buy me some extra time in bed on Xmas morning!

JollyRoseBiscuit · 25/09/2025 19:40

5 kids to cater for this year. Big jump from last year's 1 due to a few different reasons, but ive gone all out, new personalised stockings for everyone, different wrapping paper for everyone, new Christmas tree and house decor and bedding, and somehow done all stockings and main presents. So now I begin the 3 month stress of when ti wrap, even though my friend does it for me, without fail, every year. Ha.

OP, that sounds like a really good list of thoughtful presents.

Please do you have a link or a name for those things that squeeze the last makeup from the tube?

They’re more pillow case sized than stocking size tbh though everything is v small. The frisbee is more like a boomerang rather than circular. The mini crates are about the length of a small ruler - what’s that, maybe 6 inches? - and fold flat. Jewellery tray is about the size of a drinks’ coaster.

8&4 - hmmmm. Maybe a yo-yo. A small thing of slime if you allow it on the house (I try not to encourage it). A pack of blu tac each was a brilliant mumsnet suggestion last year. Some stickers. Socks. A mini compass and a wooden kings and queens of England ruler (always see these in museum shops). An eggcup!
