Bloody M&S!

Have M&S always had a £50 minimum for Christmas food to order?! I have been excitedly waiting for their range to become available which it has done today, and I have my eye on their humongous bacon and stuffing pork pie. It’s the only thing I want to buy as I’ve already ordered all my Christmas food to order from Sainsbury’s but it won’t let me check out because I haven’t reached the £50 minimum order value 😭 have they always done this or is it a new thing? Perhaps I’ve always just spent over and not noticed it but the devastation is real, oh the pork pie that I will not have 😔

Really disappointed there are no cakes other than Collin who we didn’t like last year.

Orangepate · 24/09/2025 06:11

Is this the official dictionary definition of a first world problem?

shellyleppard · 24/09/2025 06:29

£60 for a steak pie!!! Ridiculous prices

I find the whole Christmas food order selections very disappointing, especially if you are vegetarian. Almost everything is catered for large numbers. If you are on your own, or just a couple, there’s really no point.

Totally agree. Not everyone is having 8+ people round for Christmas dinner.
We are a smaller family and would also like to have something special over the festive period, but everything seems to feed at least 6 or more and food is too expensive to waste these days.
I would like to see the supermarkets cater for smaller households of 2-4 persons as well as for the usual massive family gatherings.

RedRiverShore5 · 24/09/2025 06:43

Can you cancel a few Sainsbury's things and add them to M&S

CalzoneOnLegs · 24/09/2025 06:45

FrenchandSaunders · 23/09/2025 13:17

THat Tom Kerridge beef wellington .... £200!!!

You are joking ? That is outrageous

CalzoneOnLegs · 24/09/2025 06:51

@Ireallycantthinkofagoodone agreed. The Cook meal for two is excellent and good value.

BrightLightTonight · 24/09/2025 07:02

I don’t understand why you buy your turkey/beef joints from the supermarkets. Buy from your local butcher - far better quality.

Siouxtse1 · 24/09/2025 07:05

Had a look yesterday. Very disappointed. We quite enjoyed the Colin sleigh cake last year. This year's offering is mainly white chocolate and only one of our foursome like it. Why isn't there a milk chocolate version?

Ordered their scallops last year instead of an actual fish course. This year, the only scallop dish is covered in pastry... Think I'll check out other supermarket offerings first because not everyone likes salmon or prawns. I just want something I can shove in the oven then serve with a few steamed veg.

Do agree, that cranberry topped pork pie looks good though...

CalzoneOnLegs · 24/09/2025 07:07

Sounds like they are trying to recoup some losses from the cyber attack. I hope it backfires on them

Billybagpuss · 24/09/2025 07:23

Does anyone know when the Waitrose one comes out 🤣

BeanQuisine · 24/09/2025 07:25

Wish I hadn't read this. Now I want one of those humongous bacon and stuffing pork pies...

mamagogo1 · 24/09/2025 07:30

Order from a local butcher, will be cheaper and you are supporting a local business. There’s minimum spends on all orders, nothing new.

i order from the butcher and deli where my mum lives, between mum and I we work out the menus I then order online, dad picks it up 9am on Christmas Eve. She picks up the veggies and other things in the week leading up (crackers already bought Confused)

HermioneWeasley · 24/09/2025 07:41

Can’t believe the prices. I’m going to order from Sainsbury’s this year

WhiskyandWater · 24/09/2025 07:59

It is expensive and yes that beef Wellington is eye watering (and my mum’s Delia recipe is nicer no doubt) but the shin of beef has only gone up £5 from last year and was amazing (easily served 10 last year) and the pine cones have sat at £15 for a few years so £2.50 more. Food is more expensive than last year in general so I can see why there have been price rises. We will be doing a mix of M and S, local butcher and cheesemonger and Sainsbos.

Notateacheranymore · 24/09/2025 08:01

augustusglupe · 23/09/2025 13:40

It’s expensive. I’ve just ordered the Organic Turkey, Goose & a Potato Dauphinoise.. £200 🤦🏻‍♀️
I’ll keep telling myself, well it is Christmas 🤷🏻‍♀️🎄

Add on a pork pie and send it on to the OP. Way to make new friends.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 08:01

I order from butcher, m&s and Ocado and make the majority from scratch. By butcher I mean farm gate collection. It’s perfectly possible to do things in whichever way suits you.

Okrr · 24/09/2025 08:13

My M&S has gone all self checkout for food and clothes/rest. Plus I have had staff that hover around the self-checkout that have been quite rude. I miss the great check-out staff that chatted with me and scanned whilst I packed. This is a large M&S.

I will still go to M&S for Christmas but I have not pre ordered for years, I just turn up in the trolley traffic and the shelves are packed anyway, I used to pre-order maybe 10 years ago queue to pick up stuff that was on the shelf anyway, so I stopped bothering.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 08:32

The pre-order food isn’t available on the shelves, is it?

BernadetteJune · 24/09/2025 08:42

Absolutely ridiculous prices - will be shopping at Lidl - the Christmas puddings last year were the best we've ever had! And Lidl Deluxe Chipolatas wrapped with their bacon make delicious pigs in blankets.

But the supermarkets do cater for smaller households. You just go into the shop and buy things, like you do every other week of the year. Most of the special Christmas food is also in the shop as well as the catalogues.

We have up to 8 for Christmas lunch and never order anything. We just go to the shops early on 23 or 24 December and buy what we need. Usually Morrisons then M&S and have never not got everything we wanted and back home for 8 am before the real crowds come out.

TheignT · 24/09/2025 09:06

It's collecting it that puts me off. Drive to another town, queue to get into our of town shopping centre car park that is over run for pretty much the whole of December then the absolute lute horror of trying to get out of the car park again. I could have cooked a feast in the time it takes.

Shardlake63 · 24/09/2025 09:26

I do get what you're saying, but it's not a question of availability - it's quantity! I want the special Christmas food, just not in quantities to feed 8+ people. I'm not looking to buy food that I can get any other day of the year. I would like something special for Christmas, but the supermarkets don't offer their special Christmas foods in smaller portions.

Piratejenny99 · 24/09/2025 09:37

They've removed my closest store from the list of stores you can collect a Christmas order from this year! I got all excited picking out my order before I realised too.

Billybagpuss · 24/09/2025 07:23

Does anyone know when the Waitrose one comes out 🤣

I got my Christmas Eve slot this morning , but they’ve emailed me twice to remind me I can book one from today … I think regular customers get priority , so not sure when open to general public , although I haven’t ordered online with them for about 3 months so not a particularly loyal customer.
