Balance bike for 1 year old

I am looking to get my DS (who is also turning one around the same time) a balance bike for Christmas. Am looking for one that will ideally last a little while.
There seems to be 2 options - 1 wheel at the front and 2 at the back or 2 wheels back and front? Worried the latter will be easier (although better for younger age) and therefore outgrown quite quickly.

Any thoughts?

My two did fine with a balance bike with two wheels for their first birthday and were riding a 12” pedal bike aged two — I suspect it’s a height thing though, as they were 96 centile for height, and have long legs.

my son is 3.5 - is it worth getting him a hornit balance bike or at that age will he need a pedal bike quite quickly? He is quite physically able. Not enough to start on a pedal bike but i dont want to spend a small fortune for him to only need it a few months..

2 wheels at the back is not a balance bike but a trike and will do nothing in learning to balance.

I would have a look at eBay. They grow out of it in less than a year so no point spending £££ on a new one.

My DC learned to ride a 2 wheeler just after turning 3. some kids get the hang of it quickly. You can get a normal bike, take the pedals off and use it as a balance bike and put the pedals back on when he is ready.

@nomchonge1 take a look at the btwin 2 in 1 balance bike and pedal bike. It doesn’t need tools to remove and reattach the pedals. It’s only 6.5 kg so super lightweight compared to any other pedal bike at that price (I believe). Otherwise I would get a second hand frog bike or woom bike and teach to peddle (or brand new if you don’t mind spending £400).

Thank you both. I wonder if anyone has heard of Kidvelo or has any experience with their bikes? It looks like the Rookie one converts from balance to pedal. TIA

Mine all started off on a Scuttlebug around 1. Being foldable made them so manageable - could pop a scuttlebug if under the pram for whenever it was wanted. Then proper balance bikes 2-2.5 followed by pedal bikes 3.5 - 4
