Gifts for Nana’s!

me24x · 12/09/2025 22:09

Hi all, can anyone recommend any good gifts (thoughtful) for nana’s? Or if you’re a nana what gift would you love to receive from your grandchildren? My mum has been the biggest help to us over the last few years since we had our daughter and son more recently and I just can’t put into words how grateful I am for her support and the love she shows us and the babies!

ps. It’s for Christmas, I know it’s early but I’ll be on stat mat pay by then so trying to get everything in order.

thanks!

My mum has a necklace with the grandkids fingerprints on from button and bean

MCF86 · 12/09/2025 23:52

how old is your oldest?
My son picks out gifts now and my mum loves that more than any "thing"!
(a bag, and hideous charm for her recent birthday!)

me24x · 13/09/2025 00:17

@oustedbymymatethank you for this! X

I like being given homemade things like chocolates or biscuits - something the children have made themselves.

me24x · 13/09/2025 00:23

@MCF86haha how sweet! My oldest is 20m I think she may still be a tad young to pick something out that I think she would ‘like’ however the fact she picked it, I’m sure my mum would love it none the less

I remember years ago my great aunt saying that she wanted nothing that she had to dust!
I am in the lucky position that if we need anything then we just buy it but we don’t need or want much. I get a double whammy as my birthday is at Christmas. So for me…consumables.
Candles but better than I would buy for myself and that ,I think, is the key. What I usually like but better.
Lovely socks
Bath creams. Not oils too slippery.
Soap
Hand cream.
Night wear
Coffee
Cheese! Always cheese or any treat food.
Key ring
Jewellery is tricky as I have my favourite pieces I wear all the time.
Anything made or chosen by the grandchildren but they are all teens now.
I use the tote bag every year with the hand drawn Christmas Tree on it the DGC did years ago.
Heated throw.
Cashmere scarf for my cold neck.
Silk pillowcase.
Lipstick
Celtic & Co slippers if you want to push the boat out!
Framed photo of you and the toddler.
Or of her and the toddler.
Any painting from nursery. The more splodged the better.
A photo book.

I appreciate I will be older than your mum and might be way off the mark but these are things I have enjoyed
Just had a look at things we bought my mum and they included a magazine subscription and books by her favourite author.

if your eldest likes to paint (nursery splodges right now I know but seems likely to enjoy that as they get older) you can get A4 frames which go on the wall and you can just slot pictures in and out of. If you could gift that with something which looks broadly like a Christmas tree in it this year it would a) be the gift that keeps on giving and b) get some of the huge future number of 'artworks' out of your home and into hers

I make my mum a calendar every year. Used to call it Nanny’s baby sitting rota lol. But the pictures I use will be from the same month the year before so it’s a nice little look back on the previous year. So Jan 26 picture will be from Jan 25 and so on, it’s a good annual thing that I now do for my own Nan (of my girls though not me haha), my dad, MIL and SIL as well as my mum who it originated with!

eta - I also get one for us too now and DD loves to see the new pics each month. It’s actually worked out well to keep as well since we tend not to have photo albums any more in the same way we used to.

tangobravo · 13/09/2025 11:04

If you have one of those pottery painting places near you they're good. We've done handprints on a mug and this year they'll be doing a Christmas bauble for the tree

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/09/2025 11:08

I love the calendar idea, and framed photos, and pictures they have done themselves

What a lovely idea!

have a look and see if there’s a pottery painting place near you, toddler hand prints on a mug would be good, then possibly see if they have baubles, you could get dc to paint one (once glazed, something that’s just splashes of paint can look quite lovely). Make sure both have 2025 on the bottom so you know which year.

MoodyTrudy · 13/09/2025 13:37

i got my mil a framed photo of herself and dc, she really loved it and has it in her bedroom. I got my dd one too and she has the same photo in her room, it’s very sweet

This - plus my friends DD (who isn't overly crafty - I say this because it looked beautiful but was simple in execution) last year did a A3 "circle wreath" of painted handprints of her , her DD & baby DD for my friend in shades of green paint and then added a real red tied bow to it - my DFruend loves it

thebeautifulsky · 14/09/2025 15:47

As a Grandma who adores her DGC, a photo of us in a frame would be great. I often taken photos of DGC but have very few of us. Framed artwork by DGC especially if it's of something meaningful to us. A simple box of chocolates handed over with excitement and pride by DGC. The look on their faces as they do this is a priceless memory. A simple song performed by DGC (especially one that was taught by you and many generations before) on the day is another priceless memory. Keep it simple but meaningful.

There is a company I use called Arran Sense of Scotland. My children always buy my gifts from there. My favourite is After the Rain room diffuser. It lasts for ages. Alternatively the Shetland Soap Company do a large reange of gifts. No just soaps.

greengreyblue · 14/09/2025 16:00

I used to make my mum a calendar with photos of my DC over the year. She loved it. Various companies do it and it’s quite cheap.

CharlotteCChapel · 14/09/2025 19:36

My grandson is old enough at 8 to choose present. For my birthday he chose a very sparkly necklace. He stays with us regularly so he knows the sort of things I like.

me24x · 14/09/2025 19:58

Wow thank you so much for all of the suggestions, I especially love the calendar idea. Do you use any specific websites for them? @thebeautifulskyyou’ve just made me realise my mum’s hall way is full of photos of them but none of her and them. I definitely need to get a photo framed, I think I will do this during the week☺️

So if you've got a pottery type place id totally recommend doing something like what id done. I done a Vase with my son's handprint on one side then on the other it said 'handpicked for Granny'. I then actually put fake flowers in it at the time. My mum loved it!

I also have a necklace with my sons hand and foot print and I love it so much. I love all that kind of thing though 😊

I just use Max Spielman or Vista Print! Make a favourites folder in your phone so you can spend between now and December narrowing the options down. If you’re anything like me you’ll fall down a rabbit hole of reviewing the kids past year 🥹

Chewbecca · 14/09/2025 21:07

I agree with nothing that needs to be dusted, I also hate smells with a passion so nothing smelly for me please.

Cashmere socks would be top of my list. So something small but luxurious.

Mumwithbaggage · 14/09/2025 23:08

How old's your mum? What does she enjoy doing?

I'm 61 and I'd love a sleep eye mask with bluetooth (dd1 has one she raves about so that may be on its way!)
Sambas
A kimono style dressing gown
I have a fingerprint necklace the kids got me one year and I really like it
As others have said, I have more than enough stuff! I prefer doing things instead these days - theatre, exhibitions, concerts, lunch, cocktails...
