Order the smyths catalogue and let them go through it. It’s great because you can see what they’re interested in while they look through and it gives you plenty of time to get sorted.
Smyths are also expected to have a half price toy sale on October 3rd and voucher code event on November 18th.

For both:
Magnetic tiles (you can never have enough)
craft stuff
bath stuff like ‘potions’ kits
playdough kits themed to their interests (look on Etsy)

for the toddler:
a balance bike/dome climbing frame/scooter
kitchen or shop or associated toys (you get lovely wooden ice cream shops or pizza ovens)
puzzles/sorters (lovevery kit)

6 year old
play mobil
car track
baking kit
books/audio books
lego
role play - babies, pets, construction

-Magnetic tiles always for the win for both!
-Anything from Melissa and Doug - particularly would recommend their fishing games and ice cream set.
-Usborne do some lovely musical and interactive books.

  • Yoto player - brilliant investment. You can then choose age appropriate stories for both
  • Toy kitchen with accessories - big hit in our house!
  • Create a dressing up box- vinted is brilliant for this.

Do you think its worth buying the original Magnatiles, or are other versions just as good? Magnatiles seem rather expensive.

There are lots of brands and often good deals in the run up to Christmas. Some knock offs aren’t as strong as magnatiles (connetix are a good quality brand too) so don’t build as well.

The thing to really check is that whatever brand has been made to UK safety standards. If the tiles crack open it will release very small magnets which are very dangerous if swallowed. ‘Proper’ magnetic tiles have been designed not to do this.

Oh yikes, well I definitely wouldn't be buying knock offs from temu or anything, but they have some in Asda ive been looking at. Maybe I just pay the extra for proper Magnatiles.

The Asda ones are absolutely fine but quite small sets. It’s worth shelling out for a big set otherwise it’s hard to build much.
