Magna tiles, a shoebox filled with charity shop necklaces and bracelets, a bath bomb magic wand, a big set of colouring pens and an old roll of wallpaper (draw on the back of it).

wellingtonsandwaffles · 07/09/2025 22:41

My DD loved at that age —
Magnatiles x a million
Playmobil (grown up versions but not ones with little pieces - we got second hand vehicles, zoo etc) - the people end up living in magnatile houses
play kitchen IKEA
ukulele and xylophone
every Julia Donaldson book!
a balance bike or scuttlebug
little tykes car (loads second hand)
loads of dressing up - especially the non specific stuff like capes and skirts that can go with many outfits - again get a second hand bundle!
Melissa and Doug ice cream counter (wooden) - a real hit for years

I got mine a play kitchen at about that age and both DDs played with it a lot until the youngest was about 8, so it was a good buy!

Leeds2 · 07/09/2025 23:06

Her favourite character pyjamas, and knickers/vests.

You can usually get around Christmas time special edition bubble bath/shampoo adorned with various popular characters. My D is grown up now, but I remember Gruffalo bubble bath being a hit!

Play tattoos.

Picture snap cards.

Something age appropriate from Orchard Games.

My nephews loved the Playmobil dustcart.

A play tent.

Fancy dress (superwoman is the big hit in our house)
Mini at- home Claw machine
National geographic stepping stones
Melissa doug ice cream counter - I think its so boring.. but ALL children LOVE this

Lafufufu · 08/09/2025 07:03

Stocking fillers
bubbles, anything rainbow, art stuff pencils rubbers etc
those plastic necklaces we all had as kids, magic wand, fun hair bobbles.
Maybe foil art if your stocking is big?

overweightteacher · 08/09/2025 07:13

Play doh and cutters
Dressing up
Dolls/pushchair
Books
Garage/roadmap
Playmobil ( we ended up with a whole village between the ages of 3 and 7 but it was played with constantly so worth adding too!

AliasGrape · 08/09/2025 07:24

Biggest hit ever for our girl was a wooden ice cream shop/ set - ours was GLTC but there are others. Bought for 2nd birthday and still gets almost daily play at 5. Added in a wooden cash register and she also has a (cheap plastic but still going strong) tea set from her 1st birthday and together I’d say they’re the best things we ever got her.

Agree with magnatiles too.

Dressing up

Scooter

Potion making kit

An umbrella was the surprise hit gift when she was 3!

Baby dolls and various accessories/ cot, pram etc to go with them.

Stocked a craft box with various pens, crayons, sparkly washi tape, stickers, child friendly scissors, paper, card, hole punch etc

Doctors bag/ kit and stick some real stuff in like plasters, bandages etc

A torch!

CrazyBaubles · 08/09/2025 08:37

My DS turned 3 not long after Christmas last year.
Agree with PPs on the toy kitchen, Melissa and Doug ice cream set (and 8yr old niece likes it when she comes over), dressing up stuff and magnetites.

Stocking hits here were magnifying glass, kaleidoscope, bubbles, flip books, dressing up masks.

Other ideas - puzzles, wooden toaster with butter and jam, a toy Henry cleaning set (mop, bucket, sweeping brush etc). FIL also got a mini DustBuster thing that actually worked and that was used constantly for months.
We were also given some garden toys (play tent, football, skittles, bean bag toss) which were put away and presented in the summer as his birthday is close to Christmas.

Father Christmas always brings the next size up knickers for the year in our stockings!

(Obviously that's not ALL he brings, the children are not Victorian servants)

nmungbean · 08/09/2025 19:00

I always try to but something unique and love the idea of supporting handmade. My favourite find recently is the Folksy Website - I got my toddler some finger puppets and a puppet theatre, as well as some dress up/roleplay stuff. She absolutely loved them. I also found lots of potential stocking stuffers - last Christmas I managed to source some really fun gifts for the whole family, which went down a treat .I think I also got my end of year teacher presents there too https://folksy.com/shops/Mungbean

MuNGBEANS on Folksy

MuNGBEANS - Gifts to raise a smile, lift the spirits and (hopefully) make you laugh out loud....

Priddy books do some lovely interactive books - there's loads available on World of Books. We have one that folds out to make a little dolls house with stickers they can stick in it - great for taking on holiday or to grandma's house. I've seen ones ones that lay out flat to make little towns too.

I second the poster who said necklaces and bracelets too - big beaded necklaces and colourful bangles are great fun. Funky hats too!

If you don't mind secondhand, I'd also really recommend a browse at what's for sale on Facebook Marketplace for inspiration, there's often some really cool stuff on there. Today I found a little sit on working JCB excavator in fantastic condition for £15 - what an absolute bargain. I wanted it for myself 🤣🤣

mommyandmore · 09/09/2025 21:15

Thank you all so much. Some great ideas!

We've just bought the Priddy Books See Touch Feel Playbook for our toddler for holiday, BIG hit - wipe clean activities mainly around tracing shapes and matching pairs.

Also watching this thread as ours turns 3 in Jan so hopefully useful!

OneTrackMindToday · 09/09/2025 22:58

Oh, and a torch is the other big hit of late - will be especially good for winter walks in the dark

Seriouslychild · 09/09/2025 23:13

Duplo, brio train set, orchard toy games, micro scooter, balance bike...
It's a lovely age, enjoy choosing!

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 09/09/2025 23:18

Aqua pens and mat

Ophy83 · 10/09/2025 07:59

The two things that enjoyed years and years of success with both of ours plus any visiting children were the ikea kitchen, and a reversible wooden stall that is a market stall on one side and a puppet theatre on the other. Ours was Tidlo but many brands do them.

mommyandmore · 26/09/2025 21:17

What do you think about a kiddi camera? Apparently v tech do a good one!

OP posts:
Merrow · 26/09/2025 23:45

I think 3 is probably too young for the camera unless you're thinking ahead - DS1 has a kiddizoom one he got for his 4th birthday and while DS2 (3 in December) is enamoured with it he is quite far off using it.

DS2 is getting a yoto for his birthday and an ice cream set for Christmas. Other ideas we've suggested to family are dressing up things, hobby horse and a toy till.
