My DD is going to be 21 her birthday is in December, so I need presents for both birthday and Christmas. She wants some "surprise" presents. So far on her present list she has asked for some earrings, some little Lego dupes, then some toiletries (pimple patches, shower gel, deodorant refills). Only think I have bought her as a "surprise" is a pair of slippers and pyjamas.

any ideas would be appreciated

I like name necklaces. Got my niece one from Tatty Devine for her birthday and she wears it all the time.

Lovely idea! But she is very picky with her jewellery, she has given me the exact earring she wants and doesn't want anymore jewellery, she already has a name necklace but doesn't wear it as it's "tacky"

Also she is staying at home as she's disabled, and goes to a local university, so no need to worry about where to put stuff once she graduates next year.

anything she wants for her bedroom?

if she's into music are there vinyls she would like, or a nice version of a book she loves. or tickets for the theatre or cinema pass or gig?

She might like a really nice bag (either an 'out' out bag or a practical uni bag). i got my niece a set of "essential things for adults" when she turned 21, so a good quality black tote, a reliable umbrella, a brand pair of sunglasses, a rape alarm (not exciting but reassuring to know she had one) a nice purse, etc. i'm sure they're all lost now but it felt like an appropriately grown up gift.

When my girls were 21 I bought and wrapped up 21 presents representing different events phases or interests over the years. Both absolutely loved them. Added a written memory to some.
A Cambridge satchel is another idea.

She's already got lots of stuff for her bedroom and don't want anymore as it's only small. I wish I could have bought her concert tickets but she's already bought all the ones she wants!!! She's not very into physical media or books as she thinks that the books are too bulky to store in her room 🙄! I just bought her a Fjallraven bag and a "out" bag for last birthday / Christmas. Shes very minimalist and so hard to buy for! I know when I have give her cash in previous years she doesn't spend it!

I love the idea for a weekend away but there nowhere she wants to go and her and her best design are going away next year for graduation. She isn't able to do a lot of experiences as disabled

Some really gorgeous bedding? Something quite pricey and lovely - maybe linen or high thread count cotton with fabulous designs? Or a lovely pure wool throw?

I know it sounds a bit 'household' but if a room is small then dressing the bed can make all the difference.

I love the idea of some board games!! She loves playing with her younger siblings, so any ideas for board games would be welcome! She has seen the game P for pizza, not sure how entertaining it is. She is also gluten free which stops a lot of edible treats

Lovely idea! I asked her about "upgrading" her bedding but she said there's no point as she gets fake tan over the bedding and is scared to ruin an expensive set

@ChristmasMad1

If she is a reader but just doesn't want to store the books, what about a Kindle?

AuntieDen · 07/09/2025 16:26

she sounds very style conscious, so GHDs or dyson hairdryer or even a voucher for her favourite hairdresser or for nails?

There was a mention of heated blankets on another thread, the real bargain has sold out but a luxury faux fur or velvet heated blanket?

Board games; I have ticket to ride because of previous recomendations here which is great - also MuffinTime is much better than it sounds, or monopoly? elf and regional variations are quite fun

WonderingWanda · 07/09/2025 16:27

Hand cream / foot cream
Fluffy bed socks
Hat / Gloves / Scarf
Silk pillow case
A box of posh chocolates
Turkish delight (for christmas)
A nice throw or shawl
A puzzle
A craft kit if she likes that sort of thing

Love the idea! I myself love my kindle but she's not a reader 🙄

Her best friend bought her a Dyson for her 18th and that friend is also a hairdresser so she does her hair and she does her own nails!

I definitely think that board games is a good option. She has a few monopoly and loves quiz themed games any suggestions?

Classic trivial pursuit? Depends how old the siblings are though- it's aimed at 16+.

Surprise gifts I got mine were

•21st Tatty Teddy Bear

•21st Pandora bracelet charm

•21st Personalised champagne glass

•Uber giftcard (for one for both rides & food - I think this was her favourite of the surprises 😆 )

•Ugg mini bow boots

•Face mask giftset

It does depend on what she's into though. I do find perfumes are always well received (She'd already asked for one as a gift)

I love this list! She's already asked for a 21 charm for her bracelet, and she's asked for a refill of her perfume.

I just would like something to surprise her, and I can't think of anything as the gifts I thought of she asked me for 🙄

Ticket to Ride board game is good. I played it with my DGC on holiday and loved it so much Im getting the game for myself. Posh Belgium chocolates. Has she got a mini pedi to get rid of hard skin on her heels?

That's a lovely idea, she's already booked in for one as a present from her sister

I am just thinking back to what I wanted at that age - I was going travelling so wanted things for that. A nice wash bag that has a hook for hanging on the back of doors maybe? Maybe some new headphones. A small posh perfume. I would also have loved one of those blenders with their own glasses so you make your smoothie in the container that you then carry around with you all day.
