Whoops! DS, who is only 3. Found some small/ stocking bits I had hidden in one of the filing cabinet drawers.

He got out a little fire engine so I let him open it. I then got him out of the office and distracted, he didn't mention going back in. I'll obviously move everything now. I don't think he will remember what other things were in there, but he will know he got a toy from that drawer.

He won't link it on Christmas day will he? He is pretty sharp but is still a 3yr old

Did he keep the fire engine? Or did you take it back and intend to give it at Xmas? My three year old would definitely remember it was the same one. Not necessarily a problem, I'd just say "wow, Santa saw how much you liked the one in mummy's drawer and the elves made you one just the same!"

Even if he does link it he will still be happy with his presents OP, don’t worry about it

I would just wait and see.. he got the fire engine which is good, and likelyhood is he never remembers or mentions anything else he saw.. Christmas is so far away for a 3 year old.

If it were my son, unless he kept talking about the drawer, I would just move them and ignore it. If he did keep mentioning it.. honestly id find some other reason to give them to him, and buy other things for Christmas. But I don't think that would have happened at 3.

At 3 my DD was with me when I opened a cupboard and saw a roll of the wrapping paper I had used to wrap stocking presents (i never use it for anything other than stockings) and gasped that Santa must have been in our house and wrapped the presents here. I think this was in March! So they remember more than you think but won’t put the clues together

You could tell him the fire truck was a gift for someone else.
Wrap it up and gift it to a cousin, charity etc if you don't want DS to keep it.

I don't think he'll be old enough to link the Christmas stash cupboard to Father Christmas no. Once the hype of Christmas takes hold Father Christmas visiting just takes over. Just hide the stash better elsewhere and do the usual meeting Santa at the grotto, putting Christmas pudding for Santa/treats for his reindeer before Christmas bedtime and it'll be fine.

My eldest found all hers when she was about 5. I just told her I had to send them to Father Christmas for him to wrap and deliver. She completely accepted it.

Bless her.

We did the same when DD was 4. She sometimes still asks whether I have a stash for Santa yet (she is 6) 😆

At Hallowe’en when she was four, my daughter suddenly realised that Father Christmas wasn’t real (if monsters aren’t real, and witches aren’t real, then Father Christmas isn’t either). She didn’t even ask us, she was 100% sure.
By Christmas she had entirely forgotten.
Give anything he may have seen as a birthday present and you’ll be fine.

Sorry, thought I had replied to this thread! Thanks everyone, it is very unlikely he will remember anything else in the drawer. It has now been moved anyway to a sealed plastic box in DHs shed!

He hasn't mentioned the drawer since, he isn't usually allowed into my office anyway. He only turned 3 a few weeks ago so is very young to put it together. I have no doubt he will try have a look in the drawer again though as he knows there is good stuff in there!! He is loving the little fire engine.

@Bobnobob wow! what a clever little lady! I actually don't wrap my presents. It wasn't until I was much much older, like my 20s I even knew other people had theirs wrapped. Our were left at the end of our beds. We had gifts from other people to open under the tree later on. Santa was still beyond exciting and magical so I have decided I won't be wrapping for my DC either. We have stockings and a large bag each
