I need to spread the cost but neither child has any idea what they want. This is typical for them, they don’t ever have big wish lists.

We have a switch and they both have ‘good enough’ phones.

DD is indoorsy, likes browsing the make up at boots, listening to music, writing, travel. It’s her birthday too so some extra ideas would be amazing.

DS is outdoorsy, likes sport, swimming, gaming with friends, funny tv shows.

They don’t really hang out together as their likes are so different but they do get on ok(they play switch together).

Budget about £200 for DS and £350ish for DD bday and Xmas.

Would love to hear your ideas please of anything weird, wonderful or so obvious I can’t see it (!) that your DC have enjoyed.

thank you

My DS is the same age and likes gaming. I bought him some new headphones and a gaming pillow which is shaped like a control pad and can go round your waist to rest your arms on when gaming. I've not made this year's list yet!

My dd is getting a massive foot-warmer-slipper thing shaped like a highland cow. She will love it.

She really liked getting a new suitcase last year - not expensive but she likes having her own luggage. About £30

Also can I recommend a really nice folding cosmetic bag with three clear compartments inside - the kind with an integrated hook so when you unfold it, it can hang on the back of a door. She had this a few years ago and it goes on all her travels. About £15

Cheap hot chocolate velvetiser from a Black Friday sale, with all the trimmings (flavoured hot chocolate and mini marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles etc). About £15.

Lipsalve on a carabiner hook from Mountain Warehouse (dd is doing DofE)

A really nice face mask (depending on skin type)

Some baby succulents and cactii for her room with a little book about caring for them . Start of a life-long obsession for me! They are so much fun to grow.

I was given a calligraphy kit at this age - little pots of ink and a beautiful pen with changeable nibs and some thick creamy paper. I loved it and spent hours learning to write beautiful handwriting. But random but might appeal!

For your daughter, tickets to a show or concert of a band she likes? Or merch at least? Last year I took my music loving 15yr old daughter to see Pink, and also Moulin Rouge and she lived both of those?

Themed bookmark, stickers, book stamp, book nook, painted versions or tote of favourite books if she likes reading?

A spa day or makeover session somewhere maybe?

Lidlisthebusiness · 22/08/2025 18:18

I also have a 12yr old boy who likes all the same things yours does. New sports equipment, bike, accessories. New games, gaming chair, themed controllers.

Does he like camping? Utility knife, cooking equipment, sleeping bag, head torch, walking boots and Bridgedale socks!

Mine are getting money and a couple of token gifts and a stocking full of decent bits. The young kids have a long list of wants though.

BCBird · 22/08/2025 18:23

I'd save money for gifts but get nearer the time. They might change their minds

AuntieDen · 22/08/2025 18:30

lego botanical for dd?

favourite animal jellycats, books, if they have favourite books they might be old enough to appreciate a nicely bound or signed copy?

If you don't mind @WifeOfAGemini, which Highland cow foot warmer have you got? DD is very interested in adding it to her Christmas list.

GermanShepherd74 · 22/08/2025 21:31

Wow so many great ideas, thank you all.
keen to hear more about the highland cow too!

Mine are 23 and 25 now now but I remember this all too well !

My DS would take the cash - now we do a bank transfer and give him a card that says "check your account".
He got a big telly for his 18th/Christmas and a Fender Stratocaster guitar and amp for his 21st/Christmas ( Dec baby) but usually cash . One year I did £100 in £10 notes in the pages of a Christmas book

My DD does a list but TBH in your shoes I;d save up the money and wait a bit as they'll change their minds.
But don;t wait as long as we did one year to find "Rabid Raddits Go Home" and luckily it arrived on Christmas Eve !

I bought my grandson a mini fridge for his room. He loved it so much he actually phoned one of his mates to tell him as soon as he opened it. It held a couple of cans of soda and a bar of chocolate. I think it cost about £30.

Fleece blanket, Oddballs have some on sale, this includes one in cow print

EveChristmas · 23/08/2025 18:45

i have 2 teen daughters (one 15) and have started putting away for them already. Things I’ve got already in recent sales were

laneige s’more lip set
brandi Melville joggers
a velvetiser dupe from TikTok shop. So much cheaper but does exactly the same thing.
digital camera (they’ve come back in fashion)
adidas gazelles in her favourite colour
ordinary skin care
pimple patches
face masks
heatless curl set
jellycat toy (why are these so expensive 😭)

Ideas for DS: escape room tickets (perhaps to do in the week between Christmas and NYE, could get this for both/for the family), magnet fishing kit, a fun board or card game e.g
The Chameleon, Ransom Notes, Sounds Fishy or similar, cashmere beanie (zara sells nice ones, my ds12 hates anything itchy so this went down really well with him), gaming currency gift card e.g. robux, a camera to fix to his bike, a hoodie/gaming fleece, fancy shower gel/deodorant

Ideas for DD: things to make her room lovely e.g. pretty lights/candle/picture frame/plant (urban outfitters or anthropolgie are good for inspo), a poster for her favourite singer/band, silk sleep mask with inbuilt Bluetooth headphones (about £25 on amazon), tickets to a gig or whatever she is into e.g. jewellery making class or chocolate making, jewellery, space NK or sephora voucher, fab trainers or boots, something new to wear on Christmas day, a kindle paperwhite if she likes reading

im hoping to make mine both a photo book as well, for my DS his year6 leavers photos with hopefully new friends as well and my DD will have a dance show just before Christmas so they should be nice!

Personalised notebook cover from Elvis & Kresse (love mine) - selection of good calligraphy pens - gift set of hand creams from L'Occitane (small tubes) - Paraffin wax foot bath and pellets - earphones - subscriptions to Spotify

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 24/08/2025 22:54

My teen DD loves all things make up and beauty orientated.

Last year the mini fridge was a hit. She also loves loads of cute and comfy pjs.

Over your budget but the Dyson air wrap was a big hit and is used constantly.
