Is there anything sentimental you got for your baby’s first Christmas that you still have?☺️

A Jellycat penguin, musical snow globe/night light and Tyrrell Katz Christmas beaker, bowl and plate

middleagedandinarage · 21/08/2025 18:49

I would get something small, like a personalised snow globe or something. I got DD a personalised rocking horse, it's beautiful but takes up so much space and imagine it'll eventually thrown out or land in the loft 🤷🏼‍♀️

DDs godmother bought her a lovely wooden ornament for the Christmas tree. She has bought her an ornament every year since which I think is a great idea as it means as and when she moves out she will have some sentimental ornaments straightaway.

Mesoavocado · 21/08/2025 18:53

Clothes, seat and bath toys

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/08/2025 18:53

Premium Bonds. It's probably not what you meant though .

purplespink · 21/08/2025 18:55

@dizzydizzydizzyi put money into it monthly ☺️

I filled a box with things he'd need over the next six months (he was 6 months old), plus a decoration for the tree. Things like clothes, weaning equipment, more for my nephew so hed know father Christmas had bought his cousin something too. I was a single parent with no financial support from dc father but even if i had I'd not have bought much different as it isnt necessary at that age. He spent the day sat in the box playing with the wrapping paper.

My DD wore red booties for her first Christmas and we’ve kept them and used them as a tree decoration. It wasn’t the intention when we bought them but it’s a lovely momento.

Favouritefruits · 21/08/2025 19:17

First born got the Next size up car seat 🤣 with the second born I had to make more of an effort coz first born was at the Father Christmas age (3) so he got clothes that he needed anyway and a few toys to bump up the pile!

maowmaow · 21/08/2025 19:36

A wooden turtle pull along, a little musical box keepsake, snuggly Jammie’s all-in-one, and a new teether/rattle thing to chew, he was 9 months

Spies · 21/08/2025 19:39

Ds was born just before Christmas and we got him a stocking and personalised Santa sack it's been lovely to take a picture with each of them as he grows and compare year upon year.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 22/08/2025 13:56

Each of my DDs have their own baubles. Not personalised as such, but sentimental e.g year DD1 was born was a big year with events including one from my home town and I managed to get a limited edition bauble for her first Xmas. DD2s is one her big sister bought her for her 1st Christmas that says sister and DD3 has similar, it’s from her big sisters. Over the years we have bought sentimental Christmas decorations and ornaments that have become important for various reasons. I also have a small collection of nursery/school and home made ones that go up each year.

I have a some baby clothes from their first Christmas’s too.

HostaCentral · 22/08/2025 13:59

Nothing! I am the least sentimental person ever. They got loads of stuff from family.

cornbunting · 22/08/2025 16:51

Nothing in terms of presents really. I did sew a little star for the tree - made of felt, stuffed a little bit, and embroidered with our baby's initials. It's been on the tree every year since, as has the one I made for our second baby. It's nice seeing them every year.

EsmeeMerlin · 22/08/2025 16:53

We bought both our children a personalised first Christmas ornament for the tree. Both come out every year.

An idea I saw online was to save all their Christmas outfits from their first year and then get a Christmas sack made from them.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/08/2025 17:40

He was 3 months old.
I painted an old blanket box bright blue, put letters on wooden spelling out his name, and put in a few soft toys and pram toys. It was his toy box for a few years, then dressing up box, now the box where he keeps his sports kit. He’s nearly 17!

Growlybear83 · 22/08/2025 17:42

Nothing. My daughter was only two weeks old.

MrCottersJauntyCap · 24/08/2025 11:07

We did yellow rubber ducks for the bath from Father Christmas and some things from us like books and toys. When he looked back at photos when he was 6 I wanted him to see the stocking gifts Father Christmas had left.

If I was advising now for a special gift I would say a Christmas tree ornament as they can put that on the tree each year as they get older. I wouldn't suggest a toy or bear because they get played with and usually the bear loses fur and can look like roadkill after a while.

Theonewhogotthecake · 24/08/2025 18:29

Tree bauble

RichPetuniaAgain · 24/08/2025 18:43

I bought my daughter one gift. Didn’t see the point in any more because she was only months old. However, other members of my family were very unhappy that I did this.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/08/2025 20:02

DS was only a couple of weeks old on his first Christmas , the fact DH and I remembered to buy Christmas Dinner was good going Xmas Grin
DD was 6 months old on her first Christmas (and DC2 so we were more organised )

We got them baubles , hand painted with their names and the year date (1999 and 2002) they are in the attic in storage boxes , cannot have breakables due to the cats .
We got DD a BeanieBaby white with a holly pattern . She still has this.

EcoCustard · 11/09/2025 22:28

All 4 Dc got a Steiff bear for their 1st Christmas (not the rigid one). There all different bears, Dc1 is 11 just before Christmas & it’s still his bear to cuddle if sad, sits on his bed, been all over, Cub camps, holidays, trips etc. All still going strong.

NJLX2021 · 12/09/2025 03:28

January birthday - so my son was basically 1 by his first Christmas.

He had a ride-on thing that converted from a sitting down, to then pushing, to then a scooter... Got a lot of value from it, he was still using the scooter until he was 4.

Also got his first set of Duplo, which then grew into a collection that got played with a lot until 4, and still occasionally gets brought out now.

And a green monster truck car, which started a 4-year obsession with cars.

Other bits were learning/development type stuff, to help with movement, dexterity etc.

SquigglePigs · 12/09/2025 12:20

DD was only 3 weeks old at her first Christmas but I still wanted to get her something.

We got her a jellycat dog that she still has, a "first Christmas" bauble that still goes on the tree every year, plus a cute outfit, soft touch book and some velcro wrist and ankle rattle things that have since been passed on to another baby.

readingismycardio · 12/09/2025 13:13

A jellycat bunny, a decoration for the tree, a pull along toy
